I've possibly found a way to help resurrect Rover.

All you have to do is join the "Bring back the Rover marque please TATA" facebook group, if we get enough people maybe Tata will see sense and bring back the longship. Optimistic maybe, but if any of you have been following the story on the battle for christmas number 1 between Simon Cowell and the facebook group rage against the machine for number 1, you'll see that even with the might of Simon Cowell's business machine behind it, the facebook group is still winning, if this is anything to go by maybe we can help our beloved marque rise from the ashes.
I hope that you will join, and hopefully I'll see you on the group.
Merry Christmas all,
Jon

It's a great idea but even if the Rover marque was bought back it would never be the same...! We should just leave it in peace and not let is get resurrected by people who want to build poorly constructed profit on wheels, not superbly engineered motor cars...!!!

Rovers never really been the same since the SD1 was brough out!!

I hope you realise that Simon Cowell owns the label that the group rage against the machines recorded it with,so he is in a win win situation and probably doesnt give a stuff!
More publicity and money for his pockets!
And another thing!!

What totally pointless drivel they put on tv these days!!
You cannot really class it as entertainment!!
I get more entertainment watching the magpies in my garden scrap over food!
Rant over!!

Bravo Pilkie Bravo,

Outstanding rant!!!! Yeah I did realise the sony link but it just amuses me that so many people want to stick it to Simon Cowell. I have been a fan of Rage Against The Machine for years, I bought the album from which they took the track killing in the name when it first came out, if you look at the lyrical content of the song and the political angle of the band, this is exactly the sort of thing that they stood against, and using this song in this way should be completely the opposite to everything they stood for. But it would be nice for the public to stand together and rebel against this reality show fakery nonsense, we're on the same page about all that, who cares about big bother, celebrity jungle mental meltdown, flop idol, or any of the others, it can't be good for the collective intellectuality of this country, peoples aspirations are affected by all this drivel and it's our futures that will be haunted by all this and what for??? A few corporate wide boys who want to line their own pockets and keep the Bentley serviced whilst using the Aston to go down the shops in, see, you've got me started now. :x I think I might go and see if I can see any wildlife fighting over scraps and place some bets on the outcome.
And deep breath.......... ahhh.
So do I take it you want to join this facebook group then??? :)

Yes, but TATA also own Land Rover and Jaguar and the Solihull factory. So they do actually make superbly engineered motor cars. The Jaguar name could be kept for the sports cars and Rover used on the Saloon cars.

Only in name,as they bought all our technicians and expertise!
Like almost all UK car manufacturers,a total sell out to the highest bidder to line their own pockets and the govt is not blameless either, letting the industry go down the toilet.
Like BMW with the mini, its not keeping the marque alive, its designing yet another BMW and stealing the name for their own benefit.
It was the same when Triumph were in the do-do's,they bought a car from Honda "the Ballade" and rebadged it acclaim, then Rover did the same with the 216 they bought a Honda Concerto!
The Rover 75 is now in drag as a Jag,and with a Mondeo floor pan! With a jap or bmw engine! More of a kit car really!
Why,lack of finance and backing by the govt to develop new models of our own, allowing the inevitable demise of our once world beating industry!
EVEN Rolls Royce has gone to foreign owners!

Another rant over, time for another chill pill!

"Poorly constructed profit on wheels" -That's the sort of thing they used to said about the SDI. Now it's collectable!

Problem is that we are now a service based economy, us engineer types are non profit making dinosaurs now, how can even the best engineers compete profit wise with a banker or investment business that can generate a years engineers wages in a few seconds with the press of a button. It's all about GDP as far as I can see, more volume of money changes hands and it makes us somehow better, I'm not entirely sure how this works but I'm sure if I wrote a letter to our illustrious leader he'd be more than happy to explain  I think the best that we can hope for is a "diluted angle" on a Rover, built on existing underpinnings but occupying a different market area, but until they can see past the pound signs (yuen signs???) I don't think they're gonna make anything worthy if at all, but that said if we can keep talking about the marque hopefully the name will stay fresh and maybe in the future when the time is right we might see the longship sail again.
Now I must take these rose tinted specs off, they're starting to ache a bit behind the ears :)
