Jimmy with some problems !!!!

Good evening/good morning everyone,

as some of you know, Jimmy is on his way to Germany.
I received a call from Stefan in which he described Jimmy having some problems with his electric gimmicks:

1. The wipers don´t or don´t consistently work
2. Some switches on the dashboard (heating/ventilation and some others) don´t work properly
3. As Stefan explained, the indicators run FASTER the LONGER, NOT faster the car drives !?!?!

This doesn´t really hurry but we would like to take Jimmy to TüV/Mot in about two weeks (if possible !!)

We do not know ANYTHING about this kind of stuff, we may know some people who do.

Question: Do we need a wiring diagram to work on a P6, does the person with some knowlege (NOT especially on the P6) need one, and if so, where do we get one ??

Stefan remarked it has to be BIG and COLOURED !!!!

Regards

Rolf

(PS: Heike and Stefan are in Belgium at the time I write this threat, except for the problems above everything is perfect, Jimmy/the P6 described as a car that goes very fast around the corners !!!)

Hi,

From what Chris said the last thing that got touched before they left for the ferry was the fusebox and the alternator... so I think the fusebox would be the first place to look - checking everything is secure to start with.

The wiring diagrams are in the haynes and workshop manuals and are in my experience extremely accurate so they are very helpful.

The indicator speeds can vary if the flasher is worn or if the voltage regulator is wrong - think these bits are fairly readily available for your car, as a later car you can get the 2 pin flasher relays, or you can get transistor based replacements which are more reliable than the originals...

I'm glad he's enjoying driving it!

Edit** Just reread Chris' last post on the rugeley thread. He mentions that he's tightened up the fuses etc. You might want to check that the fusebox itself isnt getting hot. It's not unknown for a series 2 fusebox to overheat...

Rich.

i think we have a clear idea what the problem is with Jimmy, so I shall wait until he lands in Germany! We think the wiper switch in the dash is U/S, and Jimmy is carrying a spare to suit! But as said, I'l wait until I can have a chat with Stefan and Heike for a full explanation!

Chris

Good morning,

thank you Rich, Chris.

Stefan and Heike will be at our parents place at about 3 o´clock pm our time, I will be there of course, maybe we will start my dads computer, otherwise he will be home a little later and try to reach you all then.

I found a few problems with my electrics; stuff not working, or working intermittenly. I fixed mine by cleaning up all the fusebox contacts, removing the fuses, and closing the spring contacts slightly so the fuses are held more tightly, then refitting the fuses. All of my random electrical faults have been down to the fuses, and poor contact between them and the fuse holders.
