KICKDOWN CABLE ADJUSTMENT

Hello all ,i,m looking for some help regarding how much travel should there be from idle to full throttle from crimp on cable, i have set cable with the sump off to make sure it is at the correct start point ,it is BW 35 box and i am running a holley carb, could anyone please measure what they have ,any help would be great,

That will vary depending on the type of kick down cam fitted and type of cable ( long or short )
With a short cable and cranked cam the cable at rest would be around
55-60mm at rest
95-98mm to full throttle
110-114 mm to kick down ( full travel )
This is measured from the end of the threaded adjuster to centre of the hole in the clevis pin.
You can feel the point you require ( i.e. The measurements above ) by pulling the inner cable outwards until you feel each point of resistance.
The above is reference and not a given as each cable will be different depending on who made it.

Thanks very much for your help ,my kickdown cable is a 16 inch, please can you tell me what cam i have from picture ,this is at full throttle20201124_121612.jpg

The type of cam and bracket fitted won't have any noticable effect on functionality, unless you try to use a flat cam bracket with an early selector shaft. (The cam then fouls the shaft).

You have a straight cam fitted.
If you have the sump Pan off as per the pictures then that's perfect for setting the cable correctly to suit your set up as you can see all three setting points and check that upstairs at the buisness end.

Hi me again, i have altered the throttle linkage so now i have full travel on cable, do you know where roughly oil level should be in box, as i dont know if i have correct length , dip stick as mine is short ,it comes inside the car, as this is in a ford pop hotrod Please

A RV8 BW35 has a total capacity of 14pt including the cooler. As a guide the level correct level is around sump gasket height with the engine running in PARK.

OK Harvey, thanks also , i have a remote cooler which is about 7 x 12 inches which seems big to me ,what do you think

That will increase the capacity, the standard cooler is just a pipe inside the cooling radiator. If you don't get any delay when selecting Drive (or reverse) then the fluid level isn't far out if the kickdown cable is set correctly. Low fluid level causes delayed engagement.

Ok thanks going to check level again ,is after selecting all gears as you would on a cold check ,then i,ll go for test drive.

Hi Harvey, did.nt get to test drive today, as I had the sump off i checked the filter which was quite dirty also to my horror there was part of a rubber seal in there, so took of rear servo and part of the seal was missing AGAIN ,As you know this had recently been replaced what i thought was a new seal, Do you know where i could buy a new one please, also a new filter.

You can't really see the friction that's left on the band from where it's at unless it's totally failed and then the band is running metal on metal, you would know all about it then.
