Looking for a boot badge...

So, the greedy individual (me), has returned to buy yet more stuff for a P6.. <--- Notice I wrote "a" and not "my".. :D

Anyway, after my engine snapped the crank, and a nice chap on here (arthuy) sold me a pedal box that looked almost like new so I could carry on with my lunacy, a couple of other P6 owners have somehow managed to find me (as in they know where I live ) - and have come round to look at my "fiddling".. Apparently seeing a P6 with no engine in it and the bay in primer is worth taking time out of your life to stare at it..

One of these chaps has a really nice white P6 (black fella named Las), he has had his spare wheel bolted to the boot for as long as he could remember, because someone stole his boot badge.. :(

So, since he's a bit older than me, and doesn't seem to know how to use the internet o_O... I have taken it upon myself to try to find him one.. There are currently two going on eBay, the usual suspects (wins, jrw, mgbd etc don't have any) - so if I fail to secure either of the eBay ones, maybe someone on here has one they are willing to part with..

Doesn't have to be in great nick, even if its pitted etc, I have a friend who can polish it up nicely..

Going rate for these is between £30 (functional part) ~ £120 (Shiny and free of scratches) from what I can gather...

Thanks in advance :)

Did you get one? The really good one went for serious money!!
If you still need I have one with really good chrome but the badge itself has started to fade. But I also have a replacement badge which is brand new. They used to be available on ebay but I don't see any just now.

The insert is the large black one just right of centre and down

try Wins International, I bought an insert badge from Geoff, but it was a different ship to my original (which is the same as the one pictured above) so I "restored" mine with red nail polish and black paint.
Am pretty certain Wins had full badges, though just checked site and nothing comes up. Probably worth phoning (a lot easier to do from UK than Oz!)

Wadhams have the badge insert but not the chrome part advertised, I need to get one for mine but there's always something else that's more important (radiator, gearbox-should be ready tomorrow, woohoo);)

The whole new boot and bonnet badge affair is a bit of a debarkle (spelling oopps) with new remanufactured ones being sorted out a few years ago but now the respective parties have done all us p6 owners in the eye by not continuing to order from the manufacturers who were commissioned to make them. Frankly I am some what pissed off by it and despite advances to the respective sellers have had no joy and even in one case not even a reply.

I've had a couple of enquiries about my badge! As far as I can tell the new insert I have is the proper original style as fitted by Rover. As can be seen on this original still in the box NOS boot mount badge I also have and would need a fairly hefty offer to prize out of my Rover badge collecting hands :p

The inserts available on ebay just now are a different design as mentioned above!
ROVER P6 Boot mount badge. Unused. Suits 2000 2200 3500.

Here is a link to the finished auctions lately, prices seem to have gone a bit mad

Hello Tam, unfortunately no, both of them were pried out of my hands by people with a lot more money than me, and also who were willing to pay a ridiculous amount for them.. That being said, how much would you be asking for the badge in the photo? My friend would just like to get the spare wheel off of the boot so he can see behind him, it doesn't need to be mint..

I will give him a call tomorrow and see if he has anything.. Hes a good chap, I bought an engine block from him for £75 (and it only needed one liner and 7 hones) :D

Hey Mick, thanks for the reply.. In my experience, JRW sell what they have on the site, so if they don't have chrome part advertised, they probably don't have it :( - Hope you get your P6 sorted, mine still has no engine in it.. BUT! I did paint the "new" engine red, and have managed to source a set of 10.5:1 pistons for £60, again from Wins  (used pistons mind you, but good used)..

That is a shame Graeme, but quite common in the classic car world.. Mick over at Pristine Bodyworks has had the same problem with getting hold of hardened diff mounts for BMW E21's - once demand dries up, the companies (or in some cases people) who make the stuff cease production and either sell off the tooling or scrap it :( - I am sure with todays tech, one could 3D print the metal part and the rest could be made from poured resin.. Hell, you could cast one in sand and make it from pewter..

Well Tam, I don't know what a "hefty offer" is.. £100? £200? - That is quite an impressive collection of badges though! :D

Fingers crossed you have some cars to go with them  - I wouldn't mind a Rover P2 or P3, though it probably wouldn't last in my hands, as I would just drive it every day
