Malibu C & C

Last Sunday I went to the 'Malibu Cars & Coffee' at Trancas beach, Malibu. Nice turnout of a wide variety of cars. On Monday I received an email from somebody at the event that my car was snapped as I was leaving and he thought it was used for a write up of the event. Attached is the picture, I hope, that was taken.Rover C&C1 0317 comp.jpg

Nice Gary - shame Malibu is too far/I'm too lazy to come up there for C&C. Are you still running on your UK plates? Do you ever pucker up when the CHP are behind you?

I had a little issue with the DMV but have finally worked it out. I'm waiting for the plates to arrive in the mail, should be any day now. I have a legal "temporary" permit to drive the car. But, I have realized at my age if you are going at the legal speed limit and driving an old car, they really give you a pass. BTW, I never put the front plate on any of my cars and it's never been an issue.

Living dangerously! I don't use the front plate either - I wouldn't have anything to put on the wall of my garage if it was on the car! Tell me you got black and gold plates - it's the only way especially for your car, even though it's about 2 years too new for them.

Curious about your DMV issue - I had a few problems with a Land Rover I imported some years back. If you fancy telling me the story and don't want it online feel free to PM me - if not that's okay too - just nosey really ;)

Love the line 'I wouldn't have anything to hang on the wall'. As for the DMV, I'll make it short. As I purchased the car out of state, Georgia, I needed a 'VIN' check by the CHP. I've had to do this before on other cars and the local CHP officer that does it is a dick. When I called for an appointment he gave me a hard time because he called the car a "grey" market car, which it isn't because it's a '72. So, and here is where this may be of use to others, I went to a further away CHP office and the guy was very cool and made short work of the inspection. With that done I went back to the DMV and they couldn't verify if Georgia was a "Non-title" state for older cars, so it was sent off to Sacramento for final disposition. I'm waiting on them now. Sorry for the seemingly off thread post, but, this may be beneficial to others, or not.

Your tax dollars hard at work... Local DMV sends paperwork to Sacramento so that a senior DMV employee can Google "is Georgia a "non-title" state for older cars..."

If you run into any real problems I can give you the phone number of the lady in Sacto that really helped me out on another DMV issue, may be useful, may not - hopefully you won't need it.

As it's your thread, I am fairly sure you can meander off topic if you like!

Black and gold plates? 72 P6 is available... go and play with the combinations on DMV's website...

Thanks for the tip, but, I'm too much a purist to go black plate. As you said 2+ years too late, however I do like 72 P6. Actually I was thinking about "XFK 585K" same as the original UK plates, then I actually show a front plate, what do you think????

RE: Sacramento lady: I may have to take you up on that, I should know anytime between now and June. Thanks.

SoCal V8, I used your link and noticed that the legacy plates are the cheapest, so much for principles, I'll go black plate.

Harvey, cute!

Go for it Gary,

Get the original UK reg number - one plate for the back, one for the wall and the original plate on the front - job done! Course you'd have to downgrade your rebel status...
