More Classic Stupidity from the DVLA

"Contrary to long-standing practice that
like-for-like repairs to a vehicle were
not considered to affect its identity or
status it now appears that any repair
to a chassis or monocoque will be
regarded as a modification and the
vehicle will no longer be considered as
historic "

I don't see the problem. As cars in the Historic taxation class no longer need to have an MOT, there's no need to make any repairs to structural parts of the vehicle, just leave it all as it is and keep going.

TBH this is all to gain registration, once it's registered then there's an obligation to keep it maintained, and who's going check whether it's had repairs or not.

Yes, it would only really be seen at an MoT test so that just means nobody would take a classic to be tested even if they prefer to, which l'm not sure is a good thing. Not everybody drills holes though.
Lucky l haven't MoT'ed the Oxford as it's getting sills & outriggers soon.

Sounds a bit stupid to me. So any car, regardless if classic, historic, or newer, if it has a new wing and bumper due to some numpty crashing into it, the taxation class changes? Think the idiots making up these rules want to drink less wine before going to the meetings! As Harvey points out, as the historic cars aren't MOT'd anyway, who will know. I'd rather have the car safe than full of holes, so mine will be getting any repairs it needs.

My 2000 Auto is a CKD. Under this, it won't be able to be registered.. luckily, it already has been
It's had a replacement boot floor.. oops.. and replacement panels, but as they aren't on the chassis (bodyshell), that part is fine

What a bloody mess. The four days last year that they actually turned up to the office, and they come out with this crap?!

Keep that under your hat - modification to the unibody = 20 years hard labour !

The worst thing with DVLA is that they keep making these statements, but if you actually ask them to send you written confirmation of what the rules re they won't do it. They just make it all up as they go along. If somebody is taking DVLA to court with a justified case I'd be happy to make a small contribution towards their costs.
