My Rover

After much consideration, I decided to purchase a set of aluminium alloy wheels for my Rover. I chose the Australian company, Performance Wheels. They manufacture a range of wheels at their Adelaide factory including a classic range known as Superlite wheels. Quite surprisingly, they manufacture wheels specifically for the Rover P6, and it was these that I chose to purchase.

The wheels are 15" X 6" , being fitted with Michelin 205/60 HR 15 tyres.

I had to modify the D posts slightly so as to provide sufficient clearance, using a bottle jack initially. Later I used a dremel and a cutting wheel so as to allow further adjustments.

Road testing has been very positive thus far. There is no loss of road feel whilst cornering is definitely improved. I was very surprised to find that despite the tyre's lower profile, bump absorbtion is actually better than the larger profile tyres as fitted to the 14" wheels.

My Rover sporting a set of 15" Superlite wheels.

Sitting lower and with an increased track adds to an aggressive stance.

A tight fit.

A painted centre plus a polished rim go well together.

I really like the look.

Ron.

Nice wheels and tyres. Looking good. That's what it looks like down your way in winter? Blimey, looks like summer to me!

Photos can be deceiving, simply freezing cold winter +20 degree days

Looking really nice Ron, with that colour combo and wheels looks like your car has been on a pimp my ride TV show.

Top addon there Ron.
The car looks great in Saffie and the new rims.
You've just raised the bar .

Graeme, Gerald and Luke,

Thanks very much :) I am really happy with how my Rover both looks and drives with those wheels fitted.

looks great Ron! Better bump performance may be due to the lighter wheels? If they are lighter; I know mine are (about 1.1kg per wheel (!))

Thanks Rob :) Yes they are lighter, but by how much I have yet to exactly determine. Will take some measures in due course

Love the wheels, are they an off the shelf item or where they custom made?

Yes, I love them too! They are a set design but there are none sitting on the shelf. When you place an order, the company will manufacture the wheels especially for you.

Is the P6 the only car to be offered with "sports" wheels, namely the Rostyles which are noticeably heavier than the standard rim?

I'm still looking for some convincing alloy Rostyle look-a-likes in 14 or 15 inch.

Those supertitles look very purposeful on your p6b Ron, would I be correct in thinking that the wheel nuts locate and centralise the wheels on the hub, especially as the rear hub has no hub spigot, so then what shank diameter wheel nuts did you obtain or were they supplied with the wheels, thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Thanks very much, they really do suit my Rover :)

Yes, you're spot on, the wheel nuts centre the wheel onto the hub. The nuts come with the wheels, I just specified imperial over metric threads.

Ron.

Thanks for that, and would you be able to measure the shank diameter sometime at your leisure to see if they are a common or garden size eg 11/16" (0.680") and what kind of fit in the holes. My attempt to fit the SD1 alloys on hold at moment until I can source accurate 3/4" shank diameter nuts or end up making some.

Will do Scott :)
