Today I have bought a new addition to my fleet.
It is a 1982 Rover 3500 Vanden Plas Auto.
After having sold my Saab 900 there was a place to fill :D

Congratulations! While I like the P6's an SD1 was my first Rover. I have had it for 15 years now and always enjoy driving it. I am sure you will like your new addition.
Dane.

Can't be many series 1 VDPs about. There weren't that many "in the day".

In fact I don't think I've seen one in my adult life. What's the S1 VDP interior like?

I just picked her up yesterday evening so could not take any pictures. I will try and make some this weekend.

Regards,

Kees

I had one a few years ago. I had three SD1s around that time, a s1.5 3500SE, s1.5 VDP and a s2 Twin Plenum.

They're great cars, just larger than a P6, so I couldn't own as many ;)

Add to the fact this is a LHD and it might be the only one of its kind...

My only experience of SD1 ownership was a 2000. Yes, it was me.

Very nice, and quite a rare model.

I had one in the 80's (Bordeaux Red / Tan leather) and there weren't many about then, let alone now. The UK market ones had thick black rubber on the facing edges of the bumper blades, and large front rubber over-riders, incorporating headlamp washers. Perhaps not fitted in certain markets. The wheel finish was specific to the VP, ie polished centre and ribbed/polished edges, always looked quite different to the std. finish.

The exhaust was also unusual in that the rear pipe was chromed, not just a chrome 'finisher/trim'. However, it was an expensive replacement, so I doubt there are many, if any, about now.

Velour was a 'no-cost' option, leather was standard.

More photos :)

Very nice, and it's piqued my interest..

Can we have one of the centre console of the dash, and of the back end with hatch please?

From a former owner I learned that in the past headlight washers were fitted. The reservoir is still visible under the bonnet, so I have to re-install them.

Thanks for that Kees!

Your rear bumper is original, but the front has been replaced at some point, as it should have the washer jets - unique to the s1.5 VDP and the V8S - and the rubber strip.

Your gear lever has also been replaced at some point, as it should be the s1.5/s2 one, not the s1 version. That's quite interesting.

It is a nice car, and a rare one too. Good luck with it!
