New cam and followers, what to buy and where?

My 1971 3500 auto is a bit sluggish now. It has 100000 km's on the clock and I think it deserves a new cam and followers, perhaps new timing chain and chain wheel as well. Can anyone recommend what to buy and where? Thanks!

A good tip there. What type of cam have you used in your P5B coupe then?

I bought my cam. lifters and chain and sprockets form Wins international at east grinstead. ( not got around to fitting yet) then found that many recommend using the 3.9 cam for better gas flow so we get more torque and power though ideally we need 3.9 heads too. there are performances cams out there too.

I believe crower cams may have some issues at the moment judging by Stan's recent experience. Paul at V8tuner is very good and well worth a phone call.

A sprocket and chain set is a must not a maybe when changing a cam.
The trouble is that if you just throw in a cam and new lifters you will not see as much benefit as you would if you go a little further.
If you port match the inlet to the gasket and to the heads and tidy up the exhaust ports you will gain a bit more.
Cam choice depends on whether you want high end bhp or low down torque, I have a 3.9 in my Cobra replica that is circa 240 bhp but is very fizzy and it likes its revs, maybe not what you want in a P6, horses for courses.

I went for the Crower 53229. All i can say is it runs fine be interesting to get it measured.

Might be a bad one or bad batch. Crower have been making cams for decades and have a really good reputation.

I used a 3.9 camshaft. I would recommend to check your lifter preload and buy some shims for your rocker shaft

Thanks guys, many good tips here. I will check wear on the valve gear as well, but if I stick to the tin head gasket, I don't think I will have to shim the valve gear pedestals. I have also heard that the 3,9 cam is giving a nice upgrade with regards to horsepower, and I know for sure I have to get a new chain and sprocket.
I haven't thought about matching exhaust ports but that i a good idea. I have done that on my other Rover, just don't know how good it is yet!
