New Custodian of a 3500S in North Scotland

Noooo! Much cleaner without! OK, so door dings at the supermarket are more of a worry, I grant you. It looks fantastic without side strips and wing badges. I like the steering wheel with black spokes a lot. If the holes for the badges on the bootlid are filled and painted, whip those emblems back off too! Less clutter. Have a pinstripe or coachline applied in silver paint instead of the stainless strips, perhaps? Lovely car, whatever you decide!

Now you are going to far, one step at a time. :p:D

I would fit them but why not drive about as is for a bit, looks good and folk with need to look twice to figure out what is missing.

You should pop in to the SARR, I am sure you will get a space. I can't make it myself as I have Uni work due in the following week. :(

5 years later and I still have not fitted the chrome strips, but am tempted to do so now, however although I have all the clips at hand I am reluctant to start drilling holes in the panels. Was thinking if anyone has used Tiger seal instead or double sided body tape, perhaps a little rough but so is drilling, also a rust trap? Anyone any tips for a wandering drill bit, apart from masking tape?

Photo showing bottom line of chrome strip which kind of conflicts with the workshop manual diagram Which shows the centre of the holes in line with the bottom of the lights, the holes should really higher than that if I am going to drill, I am just going to copy the position of the holes in the original panels which I have kept for patterns which places the bottom edge of the chrome trim with the slight fold in the panels. Double sided body tape and workshop manual drawing.

A belated photo shoot. Having changed over all the body panels for new over the winter, I had my first outing today and would like to share some photos.

Can’t decide whether to leave the chrome side strips off or not?

Blimey that looks nice! I think I prefer the look without the strips. The basic form of the P6 looks better without I think.

Ah well they are on now with 18mm body tape, quite a firm hold and easy and stress free to fit compared to a couple of months ago when I fitted the Imp body chrome trims which I drilled and fitted the plastic clips for. Easier to maintain a straight seam free line.

The chrome strips work great against the paint colour. I think they are visually 'right', whatever that may be, certainly no more than an opinion. The perfect alignment you got there really leaps out.
