New HT leads for 2200TC. Recommendations?

Hi everyone,

as the title suggest, im looking for recommendations for new HT leads for my 2200TC. I noticed the inside part of the king lead which connects to the distributor cap is very worn (looks like a little burned out wire??) so Im going to put a full new set on.

Can see Mark Gray has a set for £20. Are these good enough for the job or have people went for other types?

I took the old set to a local motor factor and he found a set to suit. Label the distributor cap before you remove the leads though.

Harder to track down than I thought. Ive got a car factor at end of my street and he didnt even have any. Went for the ones on Mark Gray's site. Only concern is the ends which attach to the plugs look totally different to the ends of the lucas leads I currently have. Although Im hopeful its only the king lead which is giving me trouble.

original rover ones have a little skirt on them to prevent dirty getting in. it comes off so can be swapped over.

Think that little black wire is a carbon lead that they bought in to replace copper one's back in the day so maybe ok.

The lead is resistive for interference suppression reasons and is carbon-cored. If you've got an ohmmeter measure the resistance, should be around 10-20 kohms and should not alter when you wiggle the lead around, if it does it could mean that the core is fractured.

the issue ive had is that the end of the king lead which plugs into the distributor cap has basically come apart. the lead itself came away completely from the 'cap' and when i pulled the cap off, the little metal part was still inserted in the dist cap. so im assuming this cannot possibly be working as good as it should even though when i put it all back together im getting enough spark for the car to run. im getting a strong smell of petrol from time to time also which im again assuming is a sign that occasionally a cylinder isnt firing?

Are these push in leads, or screw in leads. I have had problems in the past trying to use push in leads on a screw in coil or distributor. Is your coil on the left of the motor (when facing the front of the car) or is it nice and close to the distributor? If it is close to the distributor, then a universal four cylinder kit may work. This set I think may work for you:

You can make leads, but I have never had too much luck making them well. Some universal lead sets are sets to do this.
