Hey everyone,

New member here from Central Coast, New South Wales, Australia (though originally from Cornwall and Hampshire).

Just bought a 1975 P6 3500 as my first ever project resto.

Seems to have a solid base unit, testament to being a New Zealand CKD and the mild, no road salt climate we have here! The only rust is a hole in the rear valance panel and some patina rust in the paint here and there.

Plans are to get it mechanically sorted first, I’m guessing my current issues of no handbrake, very sloppy gear selector and stuck rev counter are common :)

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Welcome to the forum! There is a wealth of knowledge on here, so you will always find someone that can help you out.
There were only 38 Rovers imported into Australia wearing Saffron duco. It is a Triumph colour rather than a Rover one.

Have fun and I hope that you enjoy both your time here and your Rover.

Ron.

Thanks Ron.

I vaguely remember an uncle having a Triumph Stag back in the 70’s/80’s in Saffron.

Seems to be fate also seeing as I’m originally from Cornwall, England where Saffron is used a lot in baking

Have managed to fix a couple of things today using the forum, namely the clock and other gauges.

Hi, Nice looking car. I see you're utilising the auxiliary handbrake. Has the interior suffered from the sun?

Colin

Hi Colin,

Yes, I believe so, I’m assuming the interior is Ambla given the firmness of the vinyl and I think the sun has certainly taking its toll, the rear seat tops are quite firm and brittle.

The rest of the interior has aged well though. I noticed that the ‘wood’ cappings on the doors had started to warp and lift and then discovered the original darker Formica ones underneath so I’m currently removing the ones that someone has stuck over the top to return it to the original factory dark ‘wood’.

A full seat re-trim will be way down the line, probably in leather but would love to keep the original box pleat look though.

I think the carpets have been replaced at some stage and I believe this was the same car some 9 years ago in the attached picture.

Stefan

Welcome to this friendly forum and P6 custodianship. They're such great cars. Yours looks as if it will need a fair bit of elbow grease and polish, but it ought to buff back up to how it looked those nine years ago. Keep those pics and updates coming.

Welcome, good to see another good one in OZ!
Be careful using the tranny's P position to hold it on slopes before you get the handbrake fixed - once loaded it can be hard to get them out of P. Do some reading here, and in the manuals on how the handbrake and rear calipers work. Soft copy manuals are available....P6club in UK.

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get it in to my garage and on level ground so I can start to work on the brakes etc., when my Covid buggers off that is!
