New Project begins, 1974 P6 3500 V8

Hi everybody, been a while since I was last on here so good to post this! So yes looking for another project, budget will be around £2500-£2750 which I know isn’t much by today’s prices as everything that is considered a classic is now a ridiculous high price.
So what I would like is another series 2 P6 V8 , auto is fine as I have a spare SD1 LT77 5spd box still attached to the engine ! Ideally a runner as it’ll be great to drive it back to here in Somerset.
Again I know prices are now high and rising which is great for these cars but not great when on a budget. I will be building it the same as my last red one, American Cragar wheels, no badges, US style plates, mildly tuned engine and of course the 5spd box, colour will be a medium metallic blue with black vinyl roof
In my dreams there is maybe a car sat somewhere at a sensible price so if anyone knows of anything that maybe suitable then please do let me know, PM me if you prefer.

Many thanks Damian.

The S has gone but I think the one on eBay is definitely worth a trip up the M4/M25 for a look and to put in a cheeky bid if it's mostly solid. The interior seems a bit rough with the cracked dash and seats, but a great colour and 'Over The Top' number plate, and looks good on those alloys.

Hi guys, sorry for late reply but thank you all for the suggestions, have hopefully secured the almond auto P6 in Sevenoaks, after lengthy chats with owner who is a true petrol head and a genuine love of old classics, it sounds a good solid car with genuine low miles and few previous owners. Need to sort transport back to Somerset hopefully 1st weekend of March , I'll update once l get it home! , Tam, your P6 looks really nice !.

Quick update, collecting the car on the 10th March, will post some pics once it's here, big thanks to Harvey for the link.

Great to hear you're going to give another P6 the treatment. I thought your red car was a real cracker. Looking forward to following your progess once more.

Thanks MrTask, yeah it'll be not to dissimilar to the red car but it'll be longer build as lots of house stuff to do and as much as l love my dear wife she has as lovely habit of letting the paint dry then changing her mind. But she has let build a nice new garage, buy an SD1 engine n LT77 5dpd box and now the P6 do can't complain at all bless her, think'll cost me a few city breaks.

Picked up the car Sunday, much better than I expected, unmolested and original so really pleased, needs brakes sorting and the auto box has no reverse but I'll be swapping it out for the manual LT77 one. Only bad rust seems to be the OS rear door and few scabs on the NSR door, looks to be very original underneath and has a fair bit of history with regular servicing recorded, the engine sounds really sweet and quiet. has spare BW35 box/torque converter which will be up for sale as will the one currently in the car, I may sell the SD1 engine minus the manual box and flywheel if anyone is interested. Some pic's arriving at my house.

Hi guys, progress is slow due to various DIY projects but want to get going on the manual SD1 conversion. Does anybody have a 2nd hand pedal box from a 2000/2200 P6, see my link below to show what I bought last time in 2014, will need the connecting rod too as the clutch master cylinder will going next the brake Master/C. The brake rod connecting is fine as that is what I used last time.
I’ve listed my spare SD1 V8 engine and the spare BW35 auto box which came with this car as spare if anybody is interested.
Cheers Damian.
Re: P6 project: BW35 to LT77 manual box swap: the verdict (2014)

Rover V8 SD1 Engine & P6 V8 BW35 Autobox. Collection only! | eBay

Update if the pics work as am not paying for Photo*ucket, being naïve as don't even know the monthly charge, anyways, the LT77 box is fitted and seems to work on testing while on axle stands n ramps with no prop shaft connected which is a good result.
Started to strip car down for welding, front wings n OSF door off , not too much rust, actually very solid as was stoned chipped many years ago which has 'saved' it. I am stripping it off with heat gun and scraper as few hidden rust spots so cannot take any chances in it being all nice underneath it. Have the front inner wings left, will leave under the diff as this never seems to rot, will clean and paint in chassis black along with rest of the underside and suspension parts, front is all removed for cleaning and re-bushing. So lots to do as is, once the front is done I'll turn it around and remove rear wings & suspension & repeat the process, feel like I've done this before :)

Good work happening there. I'm raising my glass to you remembering how much cursing was done when I scraped all the underbody sealant of my base unit, must be 8 or 9 years ago now. Half way through I was given the tip of soaking the old dry sealant with diesel and leaving it overnight, then rubbing the next day with a diesel soaked rag. Smells lovely, not! Does get it all off a treat though, and you don't scratch the original mustard coloured paint. Barely needs scraping, just lots or rags.
Where are you fitting the clutch master cylinder? If you're using a vertically mounted bracket from a 3500S, I'd like to see how you mount it! Interested how other people solve that problem, that was the biggest hurdle to overcome when I did my LT77 conversion.
What colour will this one be? What road wheels are you planning on using this time around? I'll be following your thread in anticipation of another cracking good car, based on your previous form. By the way, my tuppence worth; fit a lightened flywheel – it changes the character of the car, really flies off the lights, best mod I've done yet, even better than the beefier front anti roll bar.
I forgot, isn't it fun wiggling that three-pedal box in down there in the footwell!? I had to trim so much metal away to fit mine. And getting the right size hole for the clutch pedal in the right place. Oh what fun I had... Glass raised a second time! ;)
