New Wedgie

After being down to just one P6 for a considerable period I've just fallen off the wagon again.

Some time ago I got a tip off and went to have a look at a one owner Wedgwood 1965 2000, which was for sale, in a very low profile way, at Saltford, near Bristol.

The car had been off the road some years, but didn't appear to need too much to get back on the highway.

Well recently push has come to shove, and deal done, she's coming back to Surrey in the next couple of weeks. I've long hankered for another good useable road car, something that can be used all weathers if need be, daily driven to a degree and parked in a car park without fear, and she fits the bill.

I've never bought a P6 from the original owner before. All the paperwork is there including the bill of sale. She's a West County lass. First registered 12th July 1965, she's a later 'B' suffix car.

At the moment a stuck starter motor means she's not moving under her own power and access is difficult to try and sort this until she gets back here. 57k miles from new.

The owner put the car back on the road after some years off circa 1999, he rebuilt the brakes (a definite bonus) and she is running DOT 5 fluid. Sadly though there's a lack of said fluid at the moment in the reservoir. Finding out quite where it's gone will be the first job. If the servo has gone I'll be looking at putting on a Type 7 Lockheed servo for more pedal power.

Interior very nice, carpets were new a few years ago. She has had a fair amount of welding.

Paint is OK on the top of the car, but the wings (new in the late 1990's) have peeling paint issues. I shall look at how best to address this shortly.

More to follow!

:D Nice one Nick. Just goes to show they're still out there. Blenheim maybe ????? :D :D :D

Potentially Alan.

My white 1964 car is not a well lady, the ongoing clutch judder issues mean now that the whole lot is coming out at some point, if I can get the Wedgie on the road reasonably easily she could end up doing Blenheim and other events.

Speak soon!

Great find there! More photos please!

There will be when she's exhumed from the garage - she does roll, but there's an incline up to the road and the muscle power (or tow vehicle) to get her out has not been available yet. Once she's home I'll get the starter off and working.

That's beautiful Nick! Got to be one of the nicest colour schemes too. Well done, looking forward to more piccies. :D

Gotta love Wedgewood.

I've just bought a pair of the old-style red lenses for Bruiser. A'la Chris York, I'm going to re-site the reverse light/s & utilise the originals as extra brake lights which double up as fog lights with the use of a relay or two. I've also got a boot-mounted brake light which I'll probably fit as well.
The site of the reverse lights has yet to be decided.

We don't hear much from Chris these days. Is he well?

They'll work as brake lights, but as fogs they won't be bright enough, because although fogs still use a 21w bulb like a brake light, the cut of the lens is different to make them brighter.

Would LED bulbs give the required brightness? 8)

They may be brighter than filament bulbs, but they won't be any brighter as foglights than brakelights if they're working through the same lens for both functions. IIRC late cars with a foglight in with a sidelight behind the same lens use a 21/4w bulb instead of 21/5w used for a stop/tail.

I know I'm not going to be popular for saying this but I'd keep those fog lamps...!

If they're a 'period' fitting it may be worth keeping them as they are part of the cars history and, if you fancy using it as a daily it'd be safer to have them on there (if they work?!) than to not have them...!!!

Obviously, it is your car so it's up to you now! I think it'll look good whatever you do to it as I know you're pretty darn keep on these lovely old beasts...

It's a reflector lens so would this concentrate the light any more?

Though I imagine that even if you just have the extra brake lights permanently on when foggy, it's better than sidelights only. They won't be MoT-able either as the testers won't know the facility is there. :)

Yorkie is alive and well and does check in with me fairly regularily. At present he's masterminding getting his farm running efficiently. We'll no doubt hear from him when he gets a bit more time.
