Spotted at the weekend in picturesque Werder an der Havel. Shame about the clunky plastic mirrors, but otherwise very presentable in an off white over dark green on Rostyles. Immaculate tan leather interior. My missus now says we need one to go with my P5B...

Your photo is a visual symphony. Encapsulated motoring perfection!

you should be a speech writer for the PM, so eloquently put, what more is there to say.......... beautiful cars , poetry in motion.
Bet Harold Wilson has a smile on his face , one hand on the steering wheel of the p5 and the other on his pipe?

Does you "missus" conduct automotive appreciation training for wives?
If so when and where is the next course, and what is the fee?

Nice cars too.

Or Maggie Thatchers knee

ghce, glad you like my effort! Snapped with a smartphone too.
ButterFingers, they're parked, so poetic whilst immobile, perhaps?
MikeMelb, 'er indoors actually said something about our advancing years meaning she now "needs to be motored about in something more stately"! Really, I kid you not. I couldn't believe it either. I don't know if she offers instruction, I'll ask. Perhaps a subscription course for Antipodean students can be arranged. Fees will be up front, and suitably exorbitant. Enough to enable us to afford a sufficiently stately conveyance in due course.

Just wondering with German H-plates are there any restriction to usage? I know it exempts you from the emissions sticker for cities.

Still must say, the P6 looks far better (sorry, P5 owners), it´s a prototype of a compact sports saloon, and this P6 from Berlin, very nice one !
With the German H-plate (now, by end of this year also possible in combination with a season-limited plate, i.e. From april to november) no restrictions apply, you can go everywhere, even in cities with smog alarm. But, I think, this will not last for the next years without change. With 30 years age as the limit, a lot of modern scrap is now driving around with the H-plate and especially older Diesels can now drive around for very small money for insurance and tax. The more H-cars we have now I expect restrictions. I have owned a lot of Mercedes in my life and I love the classic Mercs, but if you have ever driven behind a /8 Mercedes 200D and survived, you know what I mean

Ha. My wife's Albanian. I therefore have more experience of the Mercedes 200D than a Münich taxi-driver.

Certainly the 30 year rule now allows some quite practical daily machinery like the Golf GTi. I'm assuming that despite the H plate, they still must comply with the relevant period emissions regulations (lax as they might be). For example a pre-75 car in the UK has a maximum CO of 5% and must not visibly smoke. 1980s cars had tougher rules and when it comes to the 1990s, you have EFi and catalytic converters. this is why I think any old car regulations doing away with checks is the wrong way to go. Cars still deteriorate and fail in old age regardless of use, especially in the typical damp UK garage.

I still don't think it is going to be that much of a problem. It's a numbers game and as a daily driver, what is available for almost no money at 5 years old these days is amazing compared to the junk I had a choice from years ago. Therefore the 30 year option is still likely to be of limited appeal.

I actually love both of those Rovers because of what they both represent. The P5 was a true gentleman's carriage, a Rolls being extravagant and the Jaguar a bit too racy and even gauche - too "new money". People of impeccable taste drove a P5 when I was a boy. They still wore suits despite being retired and usually a hat too. The P6 together with the "neue-klasse" was the way forward as you state.

it is rumored that the "Palace " is having a "Mews" garage sale and that there several P6's coming up, better get your better half down there quick to make a choice.....some say :p

It´s totally clear, Peter, if a 30 year rule applies, it´s valid for all of these cars. There are many discussions in magazines, if a "boring" car from the 80s is worth for a H-plate. Yes, they are, because this owner "loves" his car as the Gullwing owner (and, suppose, even more loves his Ford Taunus or whatever). When I bought my 280SE 3.5, the first presentation to receive a H-grade must be done at the TÜV organizaton, the following inspections can be done also with other licensed organizations. At this first big inspection (but only there..) they made CO check. But, I expect discussions, as soon as the first driving regulations start here in Stuttgart from next year on. My E320CDI with Euro5 has to stay out also, and it´s ok, because we have only one world. On those days, it should not be a problem, if H-plate Diesels stay out also. We have a lot of (really a lot...) shiny Defenders here, there problem is more serious :D
