Nice Surprise

I've always carried out my own servicing on my modern cars. Unless the car is still under warranty I never understood why people wasted money paying a main dealer ridicules money. My recently acquired every day car was due a service so I decided to pop into the main dealer across from my office and buy some genuine filters. There was no one at the parts counter so I decided to get a quote from one of the service agents for a service while I waited. He stuck my key into a docking station on his laptop and started to list off all the items that were due, then came the surprise, it turns out the first owner had bought a service pack, which was still valid!! They offered to take the car immediately and offered to drop me back to the office. Within an hour I was texted a link to a video made by the "technician" of the car on the lift, with a running commentary on the remaining tread depth on my tyres, remaining brake pad material etc. Next came a phone call at lunch time informing me my car was out of the workshop and gone to be valeted!! I picked it up at 2pm, all done free of charge, with a neat little pack with the details along with a quote for the new wiper blades (€67+Vat!!). I can spend Saturday working on the Rovers instead now!

I think that you have answered your own question. Time is money and when time is in short supply, perhaps it is worth paying someone else a reasonable sum of money to take care of your modern. He will be definitely more efficient than you and you can spare time to play with your classics.
