Not a Rover, but...

Anybody seen one of these before? No idea if its a factory product, or an Oz modified.

You can see a drawing of it on the dash. What sort of car is it? I don't recall ever having seen one before :hmm:

I am utterly surprised, having seen them in the past I had assumed they were custom jobs by talented amateur coach makers. Had I known they were a factory car I would have been tempted to hunt one down and buy it, such a useful shopping basket for going to the mall or super market!

There was a shop that had tons of Austin/Morris NOS parts in NZ that burned down in the mid 80’s; I had bought lots from them as I’d owned an Austin A90 Westminster and a Wolseley 6/110; one of the items destroyed was a stack of floors and tubs for the A30/35 pickups and these were indeed factory builds

We had an A30 for my previous partner some years ago. Cute as a button but not good on the motorway even after an A35 engine was installed. She was replaced by a 2200TC, my first foray back into the P6 fraternity after a few years away & later on my 110 too, first foray into the P4 world. Both gone to pastures new now, will l ever get another P4, never say never.

Of course, it's unfair to expect a standard A30/35 to be comfortable on the motorway, it's just not what they're about. Great little runabouts though & they put a smile on people's faces. Beware of clumsy stout gentlemen walking into your trafficators though.

Hi, F1 driver James Hunt had an A30/35 as his daily driver after he retired. He was once asked "Why that car and not a sports car?" He replied "Because it satisfies my desire to drive on the limit and it doesn't threaten my licence or get me into too much trouble". (I paraphrase).

It does have a Rover connection. P6 Stylist David Bache started his career at BMC, and (apparently) was in charge of designing the instrument binaccle on the A30.

That's very rad', l like it. I wonder if l can fit a Castrol can under my A60's bonnet? :hmm:

We're going up to Yorkshire to collect her in a fortnight. Having a couple of nights in Pickering, it's auction weekend at Matthewsons (Bangers & Cash).

I'll have the little woman to do that, l'll be on a tight rein.

And being not a Rover thread, we're actually taking this original dealer sign to be valued & possibly left to be auctioned. ;)

Hi, I would think that would do well because it's appealing to two groups, both the cars and the tractor people. In good condition with only minimal damage, being easily disguised.

It's in excellent condition actually. We only found two others online, one in Belgium with a high end classic car & automobilia dealer for €4,250 & the other Stateside with a porcelain sign collective, neither in as good order as this one. I can't find them now so they're not falling out of the trees.
I think this is the one in the U.S:

OLD LAMBORGHINI PORCELAIN SIGN, 22" large ADVERTISING ENAMEL DEALERSHIP | #919700603

By our reckoning that dealer price is probably rather ambitious but we're not putting it in the bargain basement yet. ;)

Auction weekend isn't as good as it used to be, now that it's no longer in person.. but it's still a good place to visit.
