now whats wrong with these carbs

Hi all I went to gaydon show today. I drove up last night and stayed in Kenilworth then back down to gaydon this morning then home via my sisters in oxford. Aprox 310 mile round trip. I used 60.75 litres of go go juice which works out roughly 23 mpg. however on the way up I only got 22 ish and 25 on the way back. All motorway driving bar short distances on a roads.

I know I have a 3500s but I have heard people on here say they r getting 28-30

I'd say your numbers are more "normal". Perhaps those people have 5 speeds or a ZF?
that's true didn't think of that. 310 miles in a noisy p6 takes it out of me especially with the blonde brigade that accelerate like crazy so u cant get past then when u pull in behind them slow down to 55.

Well, looking back, my mothers Mini Clubman struggled to get 35 mpg in real world usage, so I'm thinking 28mpg is pretty impressive. I know we're talking "cruising" here but given 50 year old aerodynamics thats good.

I'm guessing a ZF or 5 speed set-up with an EFi setup should beat the magic 30mpg on a run. I know some Stag owners have (claimed to have) got up to 35 with a ZF.

It surprised me, TBH. So much so, in fact, I had to ask on here if it was feasilble, or if I'd got my sums wrong somehow!

Mine used more fuel going to Gaydon than coming back--could it be that Gaydon is uphill-so to speak? only a thought?

probably is coming from kent. I did mean to come say hi to u but every time I saw u I was either talking to someone or you were.
