Orange P6 2200

There is always interest in cars that don't appear correct at first glance. That said, a lot of cars have been played around with over the years, and there is nothing wrong with replacing a blown 2200TC engine with a 2000SC one.

As for cloning; it's very rare these days, especially on classic cars. P6's aren't worth a lot, and nobody is going to go to the time and effort to clone one.. and how would you do it anyway? The DVLA sends you a notification that you're no longer the owner, should someone change the ownership of a vehicle, so that wouldn't work. If you just want to copy the number plates, you don't need the chassis/engine numbers for that.

Cloning happens on £1m cars to be driven around Goodwood, not £3k P6's to be driven to the local chippy.

nothing wrong with the co-op, its good in there, right back in 1978 I had my first car (pictured in 1978) moved into my first house in Chobham 1984 and we went to this massive COOP in Addlestone, I remember reading their COOP savings scheme , by then I'd just sold my first car

talking of ' replacing a blown 2200TC engine with a 2000SC one ,' reminded me of what happened to my first car......

I had my Rover 2000 SC auto for a while, 1977 - 1983 and spotted a Rover 2200 TC for sale in Cobham, it was immaculate and such a fab motor , decided I had to move up a grade in the Rover world. talking to a guy at work (Heathrow) and I had to admit the faults of the first car that he was interested in buying. so there was a tinkling sound as the car drove along, I could never understand why , he boasted to me that (after he'd bought it) he had sorted that out, got 10 mpg better out of the engine and various other refinements he had done, 2 weeks later the car was seen being driven on the back of a low loader from our car park, I heard in the canteen he had tuned the engine so much no 3 piston had gone straight through up and beyond writing off the engine and of course he never spoke to me again after that which was a shame, oh well

They are down the road with the cash well beforehand and yes they will do this for any amount of money and it happens all the time a friend of mine bought a car that was advertised
He met a family at what he thought was there house bought the car only to have the police turn up on his door step to advise him that it was a clone
he lost the car and lost his money that he paid for the car that was 6k
It turned out that the car was sold from a rented house and the people had left without paying the rent.
they change the chassis number / engine number to match the log book
I have no problem with people being interested in a car but to connect a seller and post there chassis number and engine number on the forum without permission is not right but that’s just my opinion,

Good God Falks is that you I can see there beside your Rover P6?

that is me right there aged about 20 and totally chuffed with my P6, I thought the world of it:p
but on the subject of putting up photos of chassis number and engine number , after having read from Ban, I think we should refrain from doing that, I haven't posted any chassis number and engine number pics I don't think, let me know if I have, I will delete them

cheers mrtask. yeah it took ages to get done because there was a van parked there stopping me from parking up in the same place:rolleyes:

I kept popping by "Van still in place" ...... finally went there one day ... Van was gone ... GO GO GO

only thing is, the MKIII Cortina is long gone o_O

The photos are wonderful falks I am surprised that you managed to get a photo without the whole street cluttered with cars well done to you, years ago we had a tiger 90 it was in boxes in the garage and was originally bought like this, we never got round to putting it back together, it was sold on to a nice chap who got it all put back together and he traveled over on the bike to show us, was so nice to see it actually working after being in a box for years so when I see your photo of the bike it brought me back ;);)

I think my Dad had a Tiger 90 and fancy the bloke making the effort to travel back and show you the bike, you must have been chuffed but here is a shot of my younger brother on his AJS and next a shot of my 2 brothers together in our driveway

haha I was once a member of the Molesey FB group and posted that piccie of me standing next to my P6 outside my parents' house to the Molesey FB group, the same day another FB member piped up "HEY! that was my road, I see my Dad's MKIII Cortina in the background!" :p gotta say that was pretty surreal

I was very chuffed and surprised to see it roadworthy after donkeys years of it being in the garage. Fancy that he recognised his dads car it’s amazing how these things happen small world they say. Lovely photos Falks just been on eBay there is a few on there lots of money now, if we could have seen into the future I would have saved so many things I regret cars and bikes I scrapped over the years when I think back now it’s shocking :oops:

Yes I regret selling a few of the past cars I have had, now worth quite a bit of dosh! but not as bad as one of my uncles, had a roller on his front lawn for a while but got sick of it sitting there so gas axed it up and another time had a Stutz Bearcat sitting out back that he just left till it rotted into the ground!

I wouldn't clone your car.. I'd pay you to create a copy for me :D

But that would be a clone of a clone :)

Goodness, I would not know where to start working out a cost for that ! I know what the parts bill is for mine, and I know it could all be done in much, much less time, but it would still be a totally wacky cost for a P6 !
I wonder how much 808 would cost to buy if it came to market ? I am I right in thinking the asking was around 40k last time it was offered ?

808 is available.. but not openly. You're looking at 150k.

The replica that AWS built was advertised for around £70k.. but I'd assume that it went for a little less.

To copy yours; you're talking four wings, four doors, two valances, bonnet scoop.. to the point where they could be painted.. £10k?

808 for 150K..... Hmmm, If the original Traco motor was complete, in good shape and included then that is worth considering.
The replica was originally offered for 100K, then reduced considerably as I think it was stripped of many parts. I then lost track of it.
Do you know if 808 is road registered with a V5C ?

To copy mine I would need to allow for a repaint on the 4 wings I have as I would need to get moulds made. Then the cost of producing the 4 wings, + as you say the two valances, then the work to the base unit and rear doors.

That is the bodywork only, don't forget the suspension works, engine, trans, wheels, tyres, diff ? Holy smoke - I scare myself !

I will make enquiries into some of this.

Preliminary enquiries indicate that to produce one set of wings and a pair of rear door arch sections in GRP you are looking at @ 6K
These would be full wings not add on bubbles.
