Owners Clubs - setting one up?

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to pick your collective brains if I may.

Our Rover 800 internet group has really reached the point where it needs to morph into a full owners club. We had a stand at the NEC this year, for example, which was very well received and it would be useful to be able to negotiate club discounts with suppiers, insurance companies etc. The stand a the NEC also costs a fortune to service and a club should be able to raise funds through merchandise sales, membership fees, magazine advertising and so on.

So my question is: does anyone have any experience with setting up and running an owners. club? Tips, pitfalls, procedures, constitutions, finances etc - all advice gatefully and graciously received. Legal and financial issues worry me more than anything else, I suppose.

Thanks

Nope but saw the stand and thought it was Fab :) the car getting the recognition it deserves!

Rich.

Alex Sebbinger takes all the credit for the organisation, he and the other 3 exhibitors take credit for beautiful cars and I just help pay the electricity bill!

The only thing that jumps out at me from previous experience is that you need to be incredibly careful about insurance. If you are arranging any kind of gathering, no matter how informal, where there is any interaction with the public, you need event insurance. We used to organise ours through the IVVCC here in Ireland IIRC. Then again the rules may be a little different here. Just one to watch out for as if you are a founder/organiser you could be liable.
Regards,
Dave
