P6 convertible conversion-doors

Hi there,

I often see pics of convertible P6's. Some have original front doors and others have extended doors.
The question I have is this:
Are the extended doors home-made, or does somebody actually supply them?

The reason I ask is because I have a good rust-free car, and I am hankering for a 2-door coupe.
Without extended doors it would look wrong.

Hi,
There was only ever one convertible done by the factory & it had extended doors. I don't think I've seen a private conversion with anything but normal doors, except for the one that our first webmaster, the late Richard Taylor was doing New convertible / Coupe project
The pictures of that don't appear to be viewable now, but I seem to recall that he had moved the B/C pillars back & it looked good. He would have had to make bespoke doors though as there are none available anywhere else.

I guessed as much. Ah well!
How hard can it be to extend doors, find glass to fit, extend the internals and keep the body swage line perfect?

As you say, the pictures are no longer viewable.
But I do have a tame welder with reasonable prices, and the car is 100% rust-free. Also Rudiger Wicke has photos of the original Graber coupe, so working out the measurements shouldn't pose too much of a problem. (How naive does that sound?).

I looked into buying the P6 convertible some years back and have a set of photos on my work computer. if you PM me an email address I'll forward them on. It isn't the Graber car though, it is the FLM Panelcraft one (I think). As far as lengthening the doors goes you can extend the front skin using part of the rear door skin to maintain the line. Extending the internal frame part is a little more tricky but there is a definite place just past the top closing panel where the frame can be cut and a donor piece welded in without the need to alter the closing panel. Likewise the BC post can be cut out and moved along by swapping pieces from one side to the other. There area number of different ways of joining the rear guards to the rear door; trick is to do it in a way that allows you to access the guards forward mounting bolts. If you keep the roof that is about it for the body but you would need to have folding front seats like a mini to get get access to the rear. The window frames, mechanism and glass come out as one unit; the issue there would be the winders and the top stainless rails. personally i'd take the time to chase down a set of power windows if possible. Note also there is considerable variation in the flare on the guards and rear doors; they seldom both line up. I was at the 143 car Flynn Auction recently and none of the P6s had perfect alignment guard to door.

got it clive; I'll try to send on Monday or thereabouts when I'm back at work.. Reason i suggested considering Power Windows is if someone leaves a back window down you have to get out of the car to enter the back and wind it up! not as big a problem on a drophead though if the roof is down.

It seems I have the only P6 on Tenerife ( unless anyone knows different). That makes club meetings here a little lonely, but at least I can meet where and whenever I want. Lol
Sounds like the Jefferson county NY Rover club. There were 2 in Jefferson county. I turned up in my Red (66) Rover 2000 TC, and inspected the other (67) Rover 2000 TC, and then a gentleman by the name of Holmes bought that one, on the basis of my inspection, and moved it out of state. Now there is only one Rover in Jefferson county NY!
