P6 manual gearbox detent springs

As Minstrel keeps jumping of of 4th gear I have been told it is probably the detent spring that needs replacing. So now I am looking to replace all three detent springs in my 2000SC manual gearbox. Are these easy to replace? I know I have to remove the console from the top of the gearbox to get at them so gearbox removal will be first job. Any breakdown diagrams will be extremely helpful, please. Also your valuable information. I won't be doing the job for at least a couple of months when the weather will be a bit warmer. I don't have the luxury of a garage. I will have to take the gearbox off outside my house then take the gearbox to my large workshop. The workshop is big enough to put Minstrel in if there was a way I could do it but that is not possible. Lol.

I look forward to all you comments and advice.

Many thanks in advance........Steve

There is just a small angled plate held with two 7/16" head bolts to remove, then the detent springs just lift out. Reverse should have a stronger spring than the other two. I'd check the top gear stop bolt before I took the box out. That will be more likely to cause the problem if it's incorrectly set. Detent springs don't really have the strength to hold it in gear if there is anything working against them. The stop bolt can be adjusted with the gearbox in the car.

Personally I doubt it's a detent problem. My guess would be the stop bolt adjustment like Harvey suggests, or internal wear.

Hi Harvey. As you may have seen I have put this query on FB this morning. By reading your reply today, I was reminded of the lock bolt. I will have a look at that this week. Thanks again, Harvey.
