P6 prices: this in Practical Classics...

Seems a bit contentious to me. That said - having recently completely failed to sell a very good Three Thousand Five for anywhere near acceptable money, there may be something in it!

Cheers
Nick

a tired, neglected P6 can be a great disappointment.

Would have thought a classic car mag could spell the word - O P P O R T U N I T Y 8)

also spelled , C H A L L E N G E 8)

I don't think associating it with a citroen will do it any favours.
Most people's view of citroen is that they are unconventional ( which the P6 is ), unnecessarily complicated and unreliable ( which the p6 isn't ).

I agree with the thrust of the article though. Clearly the price is a function of supply and demand. There are quite a few nice examples about and clearly not enough people who want to buy them.

My interest in the P6 stems from my childhood; family transport, so basically nostalgia. But I also appreciate how well designed and engineered the cars are and also how technically interesting they are. I often wonder though why people without this direct association with the cars would ever buy one.

Its easy to see why people might want a classic sports car ( MG,Jag, trumph TR ), however saloons are generally less appealing to the masses. Jags and other luxury cars which still have a positive brand image will always have followers. But the Rover brand is tarnished by the Leyland and later the Austin Rover / Rover years in many people's minds.

Not this again!.
I personally have been associated with the P6 for over 25 years as an enthusiast, and long before that as a passenger in my Fathers new P6's, and I have only ever heard the reference 'Solihull Citroen' peddled out by Practical Classics magazine.

Now each to their own, but the staff writers of PC are, and always have been a 'quirky' bunch, that is how they keep a wide reader appeal. As a collective they are very drawn to the more unusual of classic cars, Citroen included, although there have been many P6's on their staff fleet over the years.
At one time (years ago) they seemed obsessed with linking the P6 to the Citroen DS - two cars which share virtually nothing in common but a rear sloping roof line and 'base unit' style construction.

I really think it's sad that they can't champion the P6 on its innovative and reliable engineering merits - it always was, and always will be, twice the car ANY Citroen will be in everything but value.

It is interesting to note though that lots of P6 owners do also own classic Citroens!.
Myself very much excluded of course!.

Yep, I truly am that sad.....

Very few DS's had BW35s . Most had the strange semi-automatic box , basically just an automatic clutch
Should we worry about what Practical Classics say ? You need stupid facial hair and silly hats to get a job on that rag . I've been reading it for 20 years and it's nowhere near as good as it was
I have to stick up for Citroens as I drive a C5 but would like a classic DS or CX

Was that the one that operated the clutch when you put your hand on the gearlever? If so, not good for me.....

I remember the Saab V4's with the auto clutch, they were quite fun to drive...

i dont like the looks of the first C5s but the drive is lovely and wafty and i love the concave rear windscreen on the last one...

- that's the one .The gear lever is on the RHS of the steering column
Strange that after fitting BW35s in the last of the DS's they went back to a "change gear but with no clutch system" on the CX

yo, speaking of the semi-auto gearbox with the stick operated clutch, my '69 VW had one. Did they sell the beetle semi-autos over there? It was the slowest accelerating car I've ever driven, bar none. And, it had an added-on A/C unit (this was when I lived in Texas) With the A/C on it was dangerously underpowered, comically slow. I wound up ripping out the A/C soon after I bought it and kept it 9 years. It tried to kill me any number of times, left me stranded with vapor lock on jesus knows how many hot Texas country roads, caught fire, crashed by my x-wife, tried to kill me again and I did love it. But that was 30 years ago and my tastes have evolved.....

 you must have either been a masochist or seriously attached to that car.
