thats what i have been thinking as well would you know or have any pictures i could see where it would be thanx john

yes it goes anti clock wise should I set it up pointing to number 1 piston at the front of the engine and set the leads at 1342 ordo you have any pictures of where it should be pointing to thanx john

John, I also have a 1964 car so haven taken a picture of the distributor. Not sure if it helps but mine runs fine. I'd love to see some pictures of yours once it's sorted.

Hi, If you're getting fuel into the cylinders you should be looking at the carb. In fact if the cylinder is holding fuel that shows the rings are good. It sounds like the carb is flooding and going into the inlet manifold. Check that the float valve is stopping fuel when the float chamber is full, that the float isn't holed ie. does it float.

hi mate thanx a lot for that you have saved me a engine strip down if it is that ill take the carb of tomorrow and have a check as turning into one of these jobs i wish i never started loll thanx a lot john

John, Thanks for the pics. If you can isolate the pump/fuel feed you could try filling up the carb reservior manually and see if it will run. It won't run for long but it wont flood and if it runs OK when the float chamber isn't being filled then you can be reasonably certain it is a float issue.

hi sorted tapet out shes runng well now need to ajust the cab witch is a standered su single carb does any one know how to ajust as mine is running far to rich and puffing out the excuste any help diagram or pitures will be very much appreciated

If its an S type it will have a hex nut on the jet underneath. To lean the mixture screw it up, that is , looking from the TOP, turn it ANTICLOCKwise. On one side under the base of the top housing (damper) there will be a small vertical pin; once its warm, lift this pin so it lifts the piston ~ 1/16" (or if the air cleaner is off, you could do this with a screwdriver directly under the piston) - if the revs lift and stay up - its rich; if the revs drop and it tries to stall, lean; when mix is good, revs should lift a bit and then stabilize back a bit. Give it a rev now and again.
