P6 running great

Hi been thinking that reading these threads fill people with dread. I know it's brilliant to go on here and get your problem solved but reading through you get the feeling that our brilliant cars are always broken. Just like to say that my car is running like a dream and is a joy to drive. Going to Silverstone classic car weekend tomorrow and am really looking forward to it and I know my p6 is going to run like a dream!

There is something to be said for the 4 litre fuel injected balanced engine plan too :)

Mine's nearly always broken to some degree or another because everything is done a bit at a time on a budget :)

Just to bump this thread back up again, may I add my hearty agreement to Chalky's sentiment! These old P6s are just brilliant. I enjoy every single mile I drive in mine, and it gets used all year round. Every time I drive it somebody en route will express themselves with a thumbs up and a smile. For my part, I hope I'm always smiling when I'm at the wheel.

Good for you Chalky! These old beauties just seem to run better when given frequent exercise (sounds like MY body). I just attend to 'issues' as they arise and drive her at every opportunity.

Mine just carried 3 of us and all our luggage down to Cropredy Festival for a fortnight of fun. About 500 miles in total without missing a beat.
Hope you had a good weekend at Cropredy - I read the listing of the artists and it looked as if half of it had been taken from a Cambridge Folk Festival of 30 years ago - wonderful memories!!

Just taken mine on a 400-mile round trip to the North East coast.
Ran like a dream all the way. What a lovely comfy cruiser.
But what I love is when I occasionally put my foot down and pull into the fast lane to fly past some modern machinery.
I can see people staring in amazement but I just think "don't be so surprised - remember rhe police used to use these to pursue people down motorways back in the 70s. And not a lot could outrun them!"

I had a great time thanks, I was a roadie so was there for the duration seeing it all take shape and return to empty fields afterwards. Apart from Madness, the line-up didn't look too inspiring but as usual it was the acts we'd never heard of that were the best. French nutters Babylon Circus were one of the most entertaining acts I've seen.

As this weekend is a bank holiday in the states I chanced driving my car into work in the Brooklyn Navy yard on Friday. She ran a charm and the temp gauge stayed pretty close to the middle even when stuck in traffic on the way home queuing for the Lincoln tunnel. After three years of ownership it's the first time I've felt confident enough to subject her to city traffic and she didn't miss a beat!

Riddler, how did it get on for mpg? I know we don't drive V8's to get mega miles, just curious!

Mick
I always check my mpg carefully on every long trip. On this occasion, doing a steady 70mph mostly on the motorway, with some town/seafront driving, it returned 27.8 mpg.
