Photobucket

My earlier post should have said "left click and hold" - sorry. Or right click, copy and paste. I am using Firefox and apart from the odd photo being too large it generally works fine for me - sorry it's being a pain for you. You can also use the upload file button - but I am sure you've tried all this already... hopefully Rich or someone else can figure out a solution for you. Good luck as we still want pics of your project ;)

Anyone have an idiot guide to uploading direct from your computer ?
I just tried to and cannot get anywhere .
I clicked on the upload a file button but cannot see any of my pics in the box as they are taken with an iPhone and stored under photos on my PC which is running Win 10

I was going to say click on 'Upload a File' that you can see next to 'Post Reply', and then you will see the image below.

Then when you select 'Browse', you can find your file. Now you say that 'Photos' do not appear. Is that a folder that you created on your computer? If so, it will be there somewhere on your computer.

Does your iPhone retain the images as jpegs? Can you see the images on your computer when you open the folder?

So Cal
Thank you again.
Yes it is very frustrating. I tried the upload button, but got file too big. I have no idea how to re size.
I am enjoying driving the car at the moment, which was the aim for the summer, although the shed is now home to a 4.6 which was hiding under a sheet in my fan pictures. Project pics will be thin on the ground as long as the sun keeps shining :)
So I await the fall out from the PB saga and will see if either there is a work around or if I will have to use another of the hosting sites.

Cheers

I had to 'upgrade' to Win 10 from 7 so most of my historical pics are in 'Pictures' Now when I upload from the iPhone they go onto my desktop in Photos.
When I click the upload button Photos does not appear in the list so I cannot chose them.
Sorry I should not be banging on about this on a car forum, I thought it may be an easy thing, I now see it is not.
PS
I do not see that image with a browse button when I click on upload a file, I get a list of what is on my PC , but not photos, which is on my desktop.
I picked a random photo from pictures to try and got..... image too big, so I'm stuffed for now.

Hmmm, can you please take a screenshot of what you can see. I can see 'desktop' and everything that is there when I browse from the image that I posted above. I too have Windows 10. Which browser are you using, the default 'Edge' or another?

To reduce the size of your images below the 1 Meg maximum, click on the windows symbol, bottom left of toolbar at the base of your screen. A pop up window appears, now in the panel at the bottom where it says 'type here to search', write 'Paint'. Now select 'Paint desktop app'. Paint will open, choose your file, then select 'resize'. It will show 100%, change that to say 35%. Then save in a different location with a different name so as to differentiate between the full size and the smaller file. You should now be able to find the new folder that you just created and the file, so you can upload successfully :)

When it comes to resizing it "should" be quite straightforward... without knowing what you're using I'll tell you how it works for me - I am using MS Office 2003 - so picture viewer from that software. Open a picture and right click - it should give you the option to edit the picture. Mine brings up a menu at the right hand side giving the option to resize. Once you have chosen this option it lets you choose either a custom size or from a list of predetermined sizes such as 1024 x 768 pixels or 800 x 600. I usually go with 800 x 600. Once it's done click "OK" then close the picture and say yes to "save" when prompted. The picture should then drag and drop without any problems.

I have uploaded from my computer many times on here, just select (upload a file) then select the file on your computer and it does it automatically . Go to preview to see how it looks....
Peter
Note: that the picture must not be a large file, I have to edit mine to reduce the size first every time because I take large files format with my camera...

If they were taken on an iPhone are they saved as jpg or another format that Win10 might not be able to process or that he forum software can't read?

Guys
You need to know that when I asked for an idiot guide that you really are dealing with an idiot.
Please don't lose any more sleep over it, I cannot do techy stuff on a computer.

Hi, I'm no expert on this but from what I understand, as if you right click and click on view image you end up going to PB to see it, PB don't mind this because you get to see all their lovely ads, which you miss out on with 3rd party hosting. I think he's put some code in that does this and downloads the pic to their own image host and thus reinstates the pic in the thread.

I am of course willing to be corrected if I've got it wrong.

Colin

Just tried that and got this

Dragging the file onto the forum works though. I have always used PhotoF*^%it because I didn't want to fill up the forum. I do like to post a lot of piccies :)

OK I am getting somewhere.
I discovered that the newest pics that have been uploaded from my phone that are on the desktop under photos are also listed under pictures.
I cannot re size the ones in photos, but I can re size them in pictures.
So I re sized one and hit the upload a file button.

At the present time, there does not appear to be a work-a-round for the Photobucket problem. Right clicking on the notice to update your account presents different options depending upon which browser you are using. If you are using Chrome, then attempting to open the image in another window takes you to the Photobucket site, and again the same problem remains. Identifying exactly which image is being represented by the now default warning is also a problem.

I have started the long process of uploading my photos that photobucket has blocked, after they banned 3rd party hosting. Deleting the markers that they leave is also possible, so that too is taking place.
