1976 Rover P6 3500S £12000 I do like the look of this car , currently on offer for £12000 and love the blurb:p

Original black / silver number plates are fitted
so the car has had black / silver number plates since new? they were the originals (apparently)

The vehicle had a nut & bold rebuild by Dan Nicholson of Wakefield and has been Waxoyled three times in its life
I like the sound of that and this is my favourite of the cars for sale this month, although the colour is the not the best one out there, it is certainly ok

Those plates would not have been fitted from new. Not on an R-reg car.

It also reminds me of many shades of poo.

All UK-registered vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1973, must display number plates that are white at the front, yellow at the rear, have black characters and be made of reflective material.
nevertheless there does seem to be a crowd of classic car owners who favour the black / silver number plates and go so far as to replace the "original" number plates with black / silver number plates regardless of the 1973 rule and to me this appears to be just such a case, well each to their own, we all have preferences

the colour is another one, I think I would prefer the brown only to black , all others are better in my view

but just take a look at that immaculate V8 engine, that is priceless! quite amazing

the rear seats definitely look better than the front but I had this cloth seating in my previous P6, so I do recognise and would not mind it again

Why do I so often feel I'm swimming against the tide;
I prefer the black on yellow for a 70's car and despise a black plate on a 70s motorbike.
The black back ground just doesn't look right, it make them look older than they are; what's the point of that? Some people spend a fortune making the car look like it was made that morning and then put the wrong colour plate on!

Our P6 has the original 3D digits riveted onto the yellow backgound, the 3D digits attract a lot of comments. I hate to think people are removing these now rare plates, for brand new none original plates.

A car should be honest, showing it's age and yet be in serviceable condition, just like me! This one to me is brought down by it's plates, it would be like me wearing trousers belted just below my armpits and short-sleeved dress shirts buttoned up to my chin, just to look older.

When the original owner of a P6 left the show room, I'm sure they were proud the Rover had the new fangled yellow plates on their brand new car.
Gavin.

quite agree Gargo

but now we know they can do it quite legally which i didnt know up to now

when I came in on the P6 scene in 1976 all the P6 cars I saw then had black on yellow , black on white plates, I never saw any with black plates at all so thats me set in my ways right from there
it guess it is different for people who loved P6s from say the early 1970s when black plates were all they knew

I prefer the black on yellow for a 70's car and despise a black plate on a 70s motorbike.

I have a '75 P6B and a '76 Z900 kwakker, both wearing Yellow and White plates with black letters, as fitted when new. (Ok the bike just has the yellow one as it's not fitted with a front plate :) ) Sparky's plates actually have the riveted lettering on his, and they look just right in my opinion.

What is a "3500S Auto" BTW?.

I know there was a 3500S NADA with an Auto box, but that's a '76 UK Spec car and certainly not an 'S'
