Pot Hole woes...!!!

I'm going to go on a little bit of a rant here but why the bloody hell are we forced to put up with roads littered with pot holes...?!?!?! I was on my way home from work today in my P6B when I hit a pot hole and although it didn't do any damage it could easily have done something nasty :x After all the money we pay in road tax (unless you're a lucky pre '72) and various other contributions why don't we have nice smooth roads like almost everywhere else in Europe...?!?!?! I've rarely seen roads being re-laid. I've seen speed cameras get erected, speed bumps put in, roads narrowed to slow down traffic and almost every other thing to make driving bloody miserable but never anything to make an evening drive home from work a pleasure...!!! I'm sorry to sound a bit acidic but hitting that hole this evening really cheesed me off (to put it mildly) and it's just so frustrating that road users don't seem to be deemed worthy of good roads to use

Try driving through Sheffield

The pot holes here are so bad that short people have started carrying ladders!!

Anti-car government, with an anti-car council

Our road tax money is wasted on duck islands for the terminally corrupt

What were you tinking of driving it on the road?

With all the legislation now it is a crime to own and use a car.

It should be kept locked away at home, SORNed and continuously insured, where it wont cause polution or break any speed limits.

Colin

The roads around here are patched to say the least.

My dad doesn't drive (his 1991 XJS :) ) many miles these days, but drove a bit the other week. His comment on coming home was that our roads look like we're a 3rd world country - & I can't disagree! :(

Isn't it a stealth road calming measure ? Many cars are having their coil springs break due to the state of our roads

I don't know about coil springs but my fillings fell out when I hit that particular ba$*!rd pot hole...!!! The council need to sort it out or my poor Rover (and many others I'm sure) is going to get broken... :x

In Australia, councils and the state and terrotory governements are the main bodies responsible for spending money on roads. On some but not all national roads, the Commonwealth goverment is responsible for funding. Pot holes and patched roads are where you find them, and in Australia you don't have to look far. In many cases and certainly in rural areas coucils don't have sufficient funds to allocate to road repairs so many roads are left unsealed...ie dirt. Some dirt roads can be much better than bitumen.

I have seen a number of P6 Rovers over the years where the top ball joint nut has come into repeated contact with the underside of the inner wings, in some cases pounding the wing so it appears quite distended while a few had punched holes right through....

Ron.

Ahh, that explains the damage on my RH inner wing! Found it during the restoration and have never been able to work out what it was.

The recent weather has created some real whoppers near me,to the extent I now go a different way to work and the shops till they are fixed!
Almost had to call a caving rescue team to get us out of one last week!
Thankfully it wasnt my car that hit it! :|

I do not want to be rude, but when I was working in England two years ago I was shocked about the state and quality of your roads compared with those of my country.

I remember one evening of pints having a chat with some friends in the Railway Tavern of Far Cotton in Northampton, speaking about British roads. When I said that I had found their roads a bit "disappointing" compared to mine in Spain, they said to me that Britain contributed with a lot of money for Europe Development Funds, namely Greek roads, Portuguese roads and... yeah, Spanish roads.

Therefore I shut up I went back to my pint quitely. I lost the best occasion for shutting my trap.
