Project...... 'PHAT' Rover!

Blimey, that is phat! Looks like it stuck it's thumb in it's mouth and blew.

Just two headlights? I'll look forward to seeing that particular aberration as twin lights are such an integral feature of the P6. Should be interesting.

Liking the rear speakers too.

After two years it moves!.....on with the last door now, but working in a narrow gap, I would not recommend!

Oh ! that is a tight work space .
Good you took the chrome side strips off before you sent her in there .

There's no right time to come back on here and say what i have to say....but there maybe folk out there who where watching the 'phat rover' progress, and wondering what has happened to yet another project, that disappeared from this forum.
Well 'phat rover' as been put aside since May 2nd...that was the day my good lady died suddenly and peacefully in my arms on a garden-centre car park.
Cannot put into words what i feel about it. My lady Janet was looking forward to coming to the car shows again, she had refused to ride in the 'spider-infested' Viva ha, and the comfort of the Rover was welcoming.

Those that know me, will have seen me at local shows with my lad, as I just had to get away from the empty house, and try and forget.
Sorry its not a happy update, but next update should be when I restart the project again.

Keep Rovering!!!!

Ray

Very sorry to hear about your loss Ray! Hope things improve for you and your cars and projects help you along. Regards Tam.

Thankyou to the above members for your thoughts. Appreciated.

I didn't get in the garage over winter as I thought I would....I lost my mojo

Well last April 2015, I finished the last 'phat' door.....and over the last week I forced myself to get back on it!!
I dressed myself with so many clothes to combat the cold.. that I resembled the Michelin Man!!...2 socks, 3 pants, thermal t-shirt, t-shirt, jumper, woolly coat, an outer coat and two woolly hats, and headed for the freezer, sorry, I mean garage!

Thermometer read 1 degree......and with fan heater on and a paraffin heater that tried to kill me with the fumes...I managed to get up it to 7 degrees!...bliss eh!

Anyhow, cars don't fix themselves, so I cracked on with a front wing, and started to chop it to shape, but what looked like a good wing yet again was full of rot and filler!
Tuned my radio to Classic FM, to try and keep me calm...instead of throwing something!!...it worked!!
so from two old wings, chopped up...I can make a good one.

so here's some pics of the slow progress....but at least its progress!

Struck down with a flu-bug!.......kept away weeks off this again!......I did put a day in......and it set me days back again.....a wise man would give up and weld the garage door shut!!.....and I'm beginning to wonder if I should become that wise man!

I spent hours, deciding on which route to go, eg wing sat out proud or shaped vents on wing to match rear, or move the wing on levers when door opens, or have the wings cable operated or solenoid operated to open, but I was firm against
moving the hinges on the doors or body!

So to make the front doors open, and be what I felt was the neatest method, I came up with the front wing has to be cut back and an extension piece added to the door, this inturn requires an inner panel / dirt panel / wing shape support to be made, see pics.
this had to shaped so that when the door is open fully the door edge did not smack into it...but I am quite happy with how it's turning out....and once one wing is done, the other is usually made quicker, as all the thinking as been done!....and believe me...I sat long and hard, with so many ways to go!

This is remarkable workmanship. Whatever people's opinions may be on modifying P6's, no one can deny the level of skill required to accomplish such a project.

Very much looking forward to seeing this car finished.

Amazing work, and a terrific insight into modifying to a high standard. Sorry I didn't get to meet you when I collected that TC head and carbs in February.

Look forward to seeing further updates!

Hi Ray, firstly so sorry to hear the sad news must be hard to think of anything else, I've been guilty of not keeping uptown date with what's been happening within the forum but will be checking in regularly from now. So glad that the project is still on the go and look forward to rejoining the progress. Keep well Ray.

At last, I have finished the front nearside wing and door mod with a little help from my son, and much appreciate his body sanding skills.
....now the other wing to do, and modify the front panel to stop it 'frowning' and I'll be a happy chappy.
