Radiator problem.

Whilst removing my radiator I've knocked off the overflow joint (a piece of copper pipe that sticks out at 90 degrees with a length of plastic tubing on it)that's just below the radiator cap (I believe it carries the overflow pipe???). I've tried soldering it but to no avail. Is there any form of adhesive that will work?. If not... please don't tell me I have to get a new radiator :(.

Does the overflow pipe go to a seperate bottle ? or just down to the ground ?

Is there any other damage to the radiator neck ?

The pipe just goes to the ground and there is no other damage to the neck.

If its not pressurised then it SHOULD solder back on.

Are you getting it clean enough and hot enough? There is a lot of metal in the header tank to disperse the heat from the solder iron - try getting the thing nice and hot with a blow torch but do not set the thing on fire!

You could do with one of the fine pencil torches used for modelling etc.

The other option though is to use some sort of plumbing fitting instead, perhaps something like a hollow bolt with a nut on the outside, you could then push the pipe over the end...

Failing that, if it only goes to the ground then just leave it off ! Only problem being if it gets really hot and releases some fluid it will go all over the rad !
