Rear top link mount - photos needed

Hi guys,

Has anyone got any photos of what the rear top link mount should look like?

Turns out that my car has a repair panel welded on the inside, and the bodgers that did it didn't bother to cut out any of the original (rusty) metal. They simply welded the plate on top inside, and then put body filler round the ragged hole on the outside. This has continued to rot, and with some of the filler removed now looks a right mess and not strong at all!

I'd like to see what a straight example should look like so I can figure out my plan of attack ready for when I actually get to it, in a week or so. Any pictures would be a great help.

Thanks!

Jamie

OK heres what mine looks like, pretty terrible under all the filler and underseal. I have removed the patch that was welded from the inside.

My question is would the flat washer bit attached the chassis bracket (on the inboard end of what I assume is a crush tube) have been welded to the boot wall? it looks like the previous people just put the new panel on the inside of the boot and hammered the orginal rusty metal back out the way. The washer bit was just butted up against the new panel. See pics:

Any info much appreciated!

I've got a good one cut out of a car in the garage. :)
I will dig it out when I get back from the doctors.

Thanks Richard! So the washer-like bit that I have left on the inboard end of the tube is actually the old boot wall?

If so then I need to cut this off and reweld the crush tube to my new repair panel when I fit it?

Thanks

Depends how good that bit of metal is. If you're not too fussed about how it looks you should be able to fabricate a new bit for that and weld it in fairly easily.

That plate being bolted on as you've said would have offered no structural support at all
