Replacing Plastic Fuel Lines with Rubber

Yesterday's drive was disrupted by fuel issues. TWith over 1/2 tank of fuel the level in the bowl on my mechanical pump was barely covering the screen and dropping low causing the car to splutter and cut out a few times. Would restart straight away but do it a few minutes later. Also seemed to be air bubbles in the inflow, never taken any notice if that's normal or not.

The 51 year old fuel lines forward of the reserve tap have seen better days. Am keen to replace everything with rubber hose and install an inline pro50 presure regulator between the mechanical pump and the carb (SC). Does anyone know what the male thread sizes are on the reserve tap and the female threads on the AC fuel pump?

You do not need a fuel pressure regulator on a mechanical pump. Doesn’t put out enough pressure to need that.

It sounds like you have a restriction somewhere. I'm not sure replacing the plastic lines is the solution, though I have seen some so varnished up they were blocked.

Given the problems lots a forums are posting regarding modern rubber hose failing after a few months with ethanol content , I would be keeping the original Nylon . I have just fitted a inline filter on my P6 2200 and made up my own extension pipes using black semi rigid Nylon 12 pipework. Nothing too difficult, just a hot air gun to apply a little heat to form the bends and fit the end connectors. Mind you I have been to the factory when they were being made to see it done.
