replacing the auto gear-leaver bush?

Hi there,
I have purchased a new lower gear-leaver bush for the auto box and in looking at the workshop manual it seems that it has to be disconnected under the car as well on top.
Looking under mine it is not the same as in the book.

Q: can the bush be replaced from the top, without disconnecting anything under the car?

Hi Peter,

I know when I did mine, I remember being under the car. I think from memory you'll need someone inside the car to stop the lever from falling through whilst you replace the spherical seat.

Ron.

If I recall .
In the cab I also removed the plastic transom / handbrake assembly . Held the gear lever from dropping with a string attached to something handy.
Under the car I undid visible gear shaft/levers to gain access to the top of the g/box.
Sorry not more helpful. Couple of years ago now

You need to be under the car to disconnect the selector rod, and undo the 3 nuts that hold the seat retainer.

As you can see . Honourable Harvey has done that nylon bush into the millions .
I have on the other hand done one . And I have Alzheimers.
If I recall ,theres a bit of fettling at the end to get the top plate in the right place before tightening down - so the gear lever engages the start inhibitor switch in the park position.
