Richards funeral with be this Thursday 28th June 2012

The Cortege will leave Richard's Home at 14.10hrs
It is a request that only family and close friends leave from the house
this is only due to logistical reasons as the street is very narrow.

To date there are around SEVEN classic Rovers going to be escorting the cortege, joining at the pub on the corner from the house. Anyone else wishing to join the escort with their P6 (or 800 or other Classic Rover) please pm Pete for the detail of where to assemble at what time etc.

The service will be held at Wakefield Crematorium at 14.40hrs
Please use this link for address & maps of location http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/CommunityAn ... torium.htm

Following the service there will be a gathering of friends and family at Sandal Rugby Club at approximately 15.30 hrs onward
where there will be a celebration of Richards life and time and space to talk with family and others
who knew Richard in his many guises as a Family Man, Workmate and Petrol Head.
Please use this link for address & maps of location http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/sandalrufc/location/

The family and Pete are very happy for anyone from the forum who wants to attend, eother at the Crem or at the Rugby Club, or both, to do so.

I shall be going as will Nick Dunning.

Pete is arranging for a wreath to be purchased on behalf of the forum. We intend to use the verses put up here by Rover-Tragic on the card:

"Fly on wings of steel my friend, just another corner will take you to the end.
The road will twist, the road will turn, a Rovering we will go.

"Another minute, another mile, another blink and I will see your smile.
The day will dawn, the day will set, a Rovering we will go.

"With every long breath, with every heart beat I travel this road and my love I will meet.
With God's eye as my guide and your face as my light a Rovering we will go."

Cost of the wreath will be around the £50 mark.

Once England have finished, Pete will be putting up details of the local charity to which Joanne wishes donations to be sent. They only accept Cheques and they don't have a website. (so a very welcome donation might be to write them a website if we have anyone skilled in that amongst us) For those in the UK that don't do cheques, and for those abroad for whom they don't work at all; I can accept Paypal payments. Once the cost of the wreath is covered, and after donations from Pete and myself, any surplus we will then send on to the charity. pm me if you want to take advantage of that arrangement.

MEET UP POINT FOR ROVERS & A N OTHERS

It has been decided that anyone wishing to follow the Cortege will meet in the Vine Tree Car Park just off the roundabout at the bottom of Leeds Road
82 Leeds Road Wakefield West Yorkshire WF1 2QF

The pub is currently boarded up so car park is free and plenty of room to turn and line up.

Use this link for map and directions please https://plus.google.com/109190599498391681376/about?gl=uk&hl=en

Dress is requested as Smart but suits / ties are not essential - your presence is more important than your sartorial elegance

With the cars leaving the house at 14.10 hrs we need to be in place and ready to 'tag on' at 14.00hrs as the pub is within 1/2 mile of the house.

I propose to be in the carpark by 13.30 hours - unfortunately not in a Rover as I no longer have one.
It is either my intention to cadge a lift or shoot off at high speed via a different route after the cortege passes.

I am going to look at the Crem tomorrow re parking but it should not be a problem
Parking at the Rugby Club is easy...

Charitable Donations in leiu of Flowers

As previously stated the family have requested that family flowers only accompany Richard.
However as stated there WILL be a wreath from the Rover Community on this forum,
I am grateful Joanne has allowed this and thank her for that kind decision.

After much thought Joanne & The Boys have decided that those who wish
can send donations in Richard's memory to a local charity linked both
to the hospital he spent a lot of time at (Pinderfields) and Leukaemia.

This charity is Wakefield Oncology Leukaemia Fund (W.O.L.F.)
Registered Charity Number: 1034649

Their aims are stated as

(1) THE RELIEF OF PERSONS SUFFERING FROM CANCER, LEUKAEMIA OR OTHER BLOOD DISORDERS
AND IN PARTICULAR BY THE PROVISION FROM TIME TO TIME OF EQUIPMENT FOR
THE DEPARTMENT OF HAEMATOLOGY AT PINDERFIELDS HOSPITAL WAKEFIELD
OR SUCH OTHER HOSPITAL OR MEDICAL CENTRES WHERE HAEMATOLOGY WORK
IS CARRIED OUT OR RESEARCHED AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME AGREE UPON

(2) THE RELIEF OF CURRENT OR FORMER PATIENTS WHO ARE OR HAVE ATTENDED THE HOSPITALS
OR MEDICAL CENTRES MENTIONED IN THE PRECEDING SUB-CLAUSE BY THE PAYMENT OF MONEY
OR THE PROVISION OF NECESSITIES AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THEIR TREATMENT

The Consultant who looked after Richard is also a Trustee of the Charity

This link will take you to the Charity Commission website listing for the charity
http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk...teredCharityNumber=1034649&SubsidiaryNumber=0

As you can see there they are not well off and need the funds to carry on the good work they do in the region.

Wakefield Oncology Leukaemia Fund (W.O.L.F.) at this time do not have a website but I am sure we can help make that happen as well ;-)

Cheques (made payable W.O.L.F.) can be sent to:

W.O.L.F.
MRS J BRUCE
78 FOXHOLES LANE
NORMANTON
WAKEFIELD
WF6 2PE
UNITED KINGDOM

Please enclose a short note explaining that the donation is in Memory of Richard W. Taylor
who passed away aged 40 years at Pinderfields Hospital on
20/06/12 due to complications brought about by Leukaemia.

Anyone wanting to use Paypal to assist in the purchase of the Wreath can message Chris York
I will be ordering the Wreath tomorrow from a trusted local florist, it will be around the 50 quid mark.
Any excess donated to Chris through Paypal will of course be forwarded to the nominated Charity.

Wreath is ordered - pick up Thursday morning for onward transmission to Undertakers ( saves delivery cost - tight Yorkshireman ;-) )

Asked for something simple, classic, manly, not too colourful and emphasis on Rover colours of Burgandy & Gold if at all possible.

For any (classic) cars coming along I have black ribbon, should you want some, for your aerial etc to indicate part of cortege.

I have also been told the music for the service.
It is not going to be your usual stuff and it includes a song recorded and sung by Richard for his wife Joanne.

I will now have black flags for window tops (like them england flags you all have....)
for those who want them courtesy of the Funeral Director - so I need them back.

At present it looks like 11 Rovers and 4 A N Others will be meeting at the Vine Tree.
Try to be there at the latest for 13.50 or so which will give us 20 minutes or so to organise
and fend off all the locals who want to stroke the cars excetera and tell you 'My Dad Had One Of Those'

Hi all, got back a little while ago.

When we arrived there was quite an array of rovers from p2-p6 collected ready to follow the cortege. The sunshine came out for him when we arrived for the service.

Just so you all know I've printed out the entire thread of peoples wishes and condolences on the forum and given that to Pete in a nice folder along with the same from the rover 800 forum to pass on at a more opportune moment to Joanne.

Pete did a sterling job I think on every front including his Eulogy, and it was a pleasure just to be able to stand at the back and hopefully let the family know Rick was well loved and respected by us all.

Rest in Peace Rick.

Good idea Rich about the thread, hope it brings Ricks family some comfort knowing what we all thought of him.
It was a sad day and all everyone can hope for is that it all goes smoothly, it seems it did.

RIP Rick.

Rest in peace Rick, one of the good guys.

An update on this one.

Ten people from both this forum and the 800 forum donated a total of £201 - 46p. This has been disbursed as follows. £50 to cover the cost of the wreath to Pete Knowles. £150 to Mrs Wood at Wakefield Oncology Leukaemia Fund (W.O.L.F.). I now hold £1-46p which I shall top up with Pete's donation and my own when he returns from his break in a fortnights time. Then that will go off to WOLF along with moneys from any latecomers.

If anyone wants a complete list of donors with amounts or a copy of the WOLF receipt, I will provide if they pm me with their e mail address. I'm not too keen on putting a full donor list on here for obvious reasons.

Difficult to make comments without feeling you're saying the wrong thing, but I can only think that if Rick was looking down on that little lot he'd be so impressed seeing what was in effect a pretty good classic car show laid on in his memory. It shows the high regard in which he was held, both by those who knew him, and those who having never met him, felt they knew him anyway.
R.I.P. Rick.
