roof fixings

The parts manual just says "drive screw" but calls the washers as "Plain Washer 1/4 x 5/8 x 20 SWC". No specific size for the screw is provided.

The parts book just gives 'self tapping screw' sadly. If you have the last parts book (RTC9022B) and any bolt, nut or screw has a part no, but no specs, look it up in the rear index, and mostly the entry will have the length and thread specs. Just not in this case. I am sure somebody who has had their roof off will chime in....eventually.
Per comedian Stephen Wright (Canadian)-
When I was young we had a sandpit.
It was a Quick Sand Pit.
I was an only child.....eventually.

He also lived in a Oneway, dead end street.

My parts manual (RTC9844CA) list 28 off GHF427 . This is a Unipart No. replacement for the original Rover part , Various firms online list it as No 12 x 1/2" Pan head Posidrive others No 10. As its a 1/4" dia washer , it seems more likely to be a No 12 which is 0.216" dia according to my Zeus chart

Very early cars used a 10-32 x 1/2 screw. Later cars use a #10 x 1/2 "drive screw", which means it has coarser, wood/sheet metal screw type thread or a vaguely acme thread form (I can't remember which now). I'll try and find an example.

Thinking about this a bit more, my parts books (and parts) stop at 1970 or there abouts. It's quite possible the later cars use a more normal (i.e. cheap) sheet metal type screw, which could be the GHF427. I've never seen the acme form screws on anything other than a Rover when I was wrenching on British cars back in the 80s.

My parts book lists them as 78744, self tapping screw, but someone in the distant past has written GHF427 against it in pen. I am assuming it's an old parts book that someone has updated in the dealership.
