Roof Sealer

I've had a new roof painted and are about to install it. The old roof had a firm/heavy flexible sealer a bit like blu-tak.
I have some black windscreen sealer but this is quite fluid in comparison to the old sealer, maybe the old sealer has dried a bit. The concern I have with the windscreen sealer is being more fluid it will squeeze out of the area between roof and base unit a. inside the car and b. into the rain gutters.
From the posts I've read a flexible sealer is required but no one actually states the brand they have used and their experience with this.
Could someone who has done this please provide a brand of sealer which is best to use. Or is the windscreen sealer OK and I'm being over cautious as I've not done this before.

Btw the old roof was rusting under the sealer above the drivers door.

Cheers from NZ.

I used this stuff, but I don't know how available it will be in NZ

It stays in its uncured state for years so will seal the joint but not bond it. You will therefore be able to remove the roof if you need to in the future, whereas with curing sealants like Sikaflex (PUs/Polyurethanes) MS Polymers or silicones, they cure to a rubber state and will bond the roof to the base unit. Silicones, dependant on their type can also cause rust on mild steel, so avoid if at all possible.

Thanks all for your responses. I've ordered some Dum Dum strip locally from Wyatts. I'll let you know how this works and how I get on.

Cheers.
