Mrs Webmaster's Rover 216 Cabriolet for sale, 1997, K series engine, 75k miles (although engine has been replaced by previous owners, receipt for swap with paperwork)

I was considering keeping this as a summer car for me, but my illness means I can't do any work on it, and I'm trying to keep the drive clear ready for our house extension when it happens.

MOT and TAX until the end of April.

Full leather interior in very good condition, very light wear to drivers seat. Electric windows, mirrors and hood. Stereo with cd multichanger.

Recently had replacement gearbox, with new clutch and clutch cable.

Engine has always been watertight, and runs well, but has always had slight missfire when hot, and uses a little oil.

15 year old car, so has usual collection of dings and scratches, couple of very small rust spots, but no serious rust, generally good condition bodily.

Hood has seen better days but is waterproof and electric, works perfectly. I have a brand new rear screen section to go with it (cost me £150) which includes the rear metal section which are £95 on their own and essential if you're fitting a new hood (which was my intention). I may be able to fit this rear screen before sale.

Will also come with 3 spare alloys, some paint and various other spares.

Remaining stars will be removed before sale.

Sorted with a full MOT these go for about £1000-£1200, but I really just want to sell it before the tax and test run out, so I'm looking for offers around £600

Great little summer fun car, and it's a Rover ! :D
Be aware these are not cheap to insure for kids, but the renewal this year for my wife was £330 fully comp.

PM or email me for details etc.
Location - 5 mins from J41 M1 Wakefield

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

Loving the interior Richard, could have been a contender if we didn't have the xr3i cab

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

Yes the interiors are really nice, in fact I bought another full set to potentially use in my coupe project :D

I've bought her a Megane convertible to replace this, and the interior isn't a patch on the Rover.

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

UPDATE

Pete helpfully took this down for an MOT for me today, on the off chance it would just fly through. Unfortunately not, but the news isn't bad.

It needs, 2 indicator bulbs (colour faded), a front lower arm (ball joint warn, £30 for an arm) and it failed on the emissions. I believe the emissions problem is caused by the slight misfire, but couldn't say what is causing the misfire.

Obviously the bulbs and lower arm are a pretty straight forward fix, but I just can't do any work on it. At least you know that the rest of the car is fine.

It is still effectively taxed and tested until the end of April, so can be driven home.

Open to any reasonable offers.

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

Interestingly, according to the fail sheet you can use it until the existing test validity expires, which I haven't seen before. However obviously you would be aware of a defect, and if stopped could possibly be fined.

I think it's more than "possibly".

The problem is that once you've had the test done, even though the previous one is still valid timewise, if plod come up behind you then when they check it it's going to flag up the failure points on the most recent test, and I can't see them missing that opportunity.....

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

I would have been in trouble then. I thought that's why they allowed you to get it tested a couple of weeks before its due and keep the original renewal date. I presumed it was so if it failed you can still use it and give you time to repair while using it for work. These bu####s are stitching us up again.

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

Well, as I said, on the fail sheet it says you can.

Don't forget an MOT is effectively invalid the minute you drive it out of the test station, you could crack a number plate, chip the windscreen, blow a bulb, even run out of screenwash (!) on the way home, get stopped and fined. Or you could get stopped by at a dvla test station and they could find something else and fine you.

I think you have encapsulated it perfectly there. There is always something that they can fine you for....

Re: Rover 216 Cabriolet

The convertible drives lovely.

Has Rick mentioned the new starter, new clutch and other stuff it's had?
This car has had anything needing done to it done as Jo had to have a reliable car for work.

Tester commented how sound it was.
He tried his best with the emission reading but no joy.

Sort that out and you have a really nice convertible for next to nothing.

I would have it but Jo will not sell it to me as it means she will see it around.

This reminds me of a time I was pulled into a layby by the police where the M.O.T people were going over a few cars pulled in earlyer. At the time I had a for sale sign in the back window, when one of the guys came over to me noticing the sign said " well as it's for sale we shouldn't find anything wrong with it " lucky for me they didn't..........
