Hello - I am pretty well known on this forum and a member of the P6 Rover Owners' Club.
I have decided to sell my lovely 1972 Rover 3500S - it is Monza Red with a black vinyl roof and Sandalwood leather interior.
Why am I selling it? Because I have just bought another classic car - one I have been hunting for years to find - and don't have space to keep the two cars.
So the car looks stunning - and although not concourse it turns heads everywhere it goes.
In December 2016 the engine was completely rebuilt by the legendary Rover guru Tom Cheetham of Lake View restorations.
Mechanically, just about everything has been replaced on the car - it runs and drives like it has just come out of the showroom.
The rebuild included:
* New pistons
* Cylinder heads skimmed
* Reconditioned crankshaft
* New camshaft
* New timing gear/chain and cam followers
* Valves reseated
IN ADDITION the following items have been fitted in the last two years:
* Reconditioned and fully balanced propshaft
* New alternator
* New coil
* New water pump
* New brake master cylinder
* New brake servo
* New radiator
* Fully refurbished heater box
* New battery
* Four new Vredestein Classic Sprint tyres
* New rear headrests (not shown on photo)
The previous owners replaced the vinyl roof and fitted a reconditioned gearbox.
Everything works on the car apart from the heated rear window. You can see there is a period classic Mota Lita wooden steering wheel fitted (which would cost £469 to buy today).
It starts instantly every morning and pulls fast and smoothly. There are no vibrations, knocks or rattles of any kind in this car.
Bodywork - there is some sign of corrosion inside the D-post frame (I think it is called?) on the nearside rear door (the curved section). This I have not got round to dealing with yet but I understand you can buy that section and weld it in and it is not too expensive a job. This corrosion has not altered in the time I have owned the car.
Inner sills are hard to inspect but if you lift the rear seats and the carpets and examine from the inside there is evidence of properly done repairs in its past (not by me).
I need to stress that I drive this car a lot - I have covered 11,000 miles in the past two years. I have toured Scotland and Cornwall (I live in Cheshire) and at times driven in torrential rain. It doers NOT let water in anywhere (and that includes the boot which incidentally has a very sound floor). All the carpets and the soundproofing are bone dry.
During my ownership it has been regularly serviced and maintained by Tom Cheetham as I am no mechanic myself. The oil and filter have been changed without fail TWICE every year and I have only put in Valvoline VR1 oil as recommended by the club.
It passed its last MOT (valid until September this year) with only one advisory - a small oil leak which was quickly traced to a rocker cover gasket and dealt with. The previous year it passed with no advisories.
This is a car you can hop into and drive miles without fear of breakdown. Mechanically it is very sound and bodywise it looks superb as the pictures show - but is not perfect which is why I am not advertsing it at concourse money.
I have a huge history file on the car dating back to the early 80s with all previous MOTs, receipts for work etc,and details of previous owners.
The car is matching numbers and has a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. It is well known by Deborah Stanley of the P6ROC who has asked me to put the car on the club stand at their forthcoming show in Manchester in September.IMG_0320 (Medium).JPG IMG_1120 (Medium).JPG IMG_1127 (Medium).JPG IMG_1130 (Medium).JPG IMG_1132 (Medium).JPG IMG_20161221_092818902 (Medium) - Copy.jpg 12073[/ATTACH] UNDERWAY 9 (medium).jpg NEARLY DONE (medium).jpg
The pictures show the exterior and interior of the car, and I have included two of the rebuild by Tom Cheetham - although I have a full set of photos showing every stage of that.
The asking price is £8,500. I live in Cheshire. If you are a serious potential buyer please send me a private message with your number and I will get in contact with you.

Riddler, I’m curious. What have you bought to replace such a stunning car?
If I still lived in the UK I would be making an offer.

Yes that’s the actual car. Thrilled with it. Not a particularly fast car - my Rover would leave it in a cloud of dust - but absolutely drop dead gorgeous to look at. Well I think so anyway!

Just an update. My Rover was sold this weekend to a lovely chap from North Yorkshire who I suspect will be on here before too long!
I will now be signing off from this forum and signing on to the equivalent one for Volvo owners. Thanks to all those who have given me help and advice while I have been on here and good luck to all of you with your Rovers.

Very pretty new toy. Nevertheless, I wonder how long it'll be before you regret parting with your P6? Methinks you'll be back here before too long! ;)
