Reluctantly letting this rolling restoration project go. Car is tax and MOT exempt, and just about to celebrate its 50th birthday.

There’s still plenty of interesting stuff to do, as follows:
  • Needs a professional respray. Paintwork generally poor. Panels sprayed using aerosol cans from different suppliers, so several different shades of Almond!!
  • Replace front disks – current ones off 2 litre model – too small (MOT advisory)
  • Replace leaking rear LH brake calliper (MOT advisory)
  • Replace cracked rubber boots on various front suspension joints (MOT advisory)
  • Buy and fit new carpets
  • Buy and fit outer cills
  • Replace cracked rubber seal on De Dion tube
  • Overhaul fuel pump
  • Replace timing chain, sprockets, camshaft and tappets
  • Repair or replace leaking automatic transmission
  • Radio doesn’t work
  • Rear screen heater doesn’t work
  • Clock works intermittently
  • Choke cable won't lock
Work done so far:
  • Entire base unit, bulkhead and rear suspension (including new road springs) refurbished by Colin Gould in Q3 2017. Work documented in Members Projects under the heading “Can he fix it – yes he can”
  • Power steering and proper leather steering wheel retro-fitted by Colin Gould in Q3 2017
  • Electronic ignition
  • New plugs and uprated HT leads
  • Uprated radiator
  • New engine mountings
  • 4 x Vredestein tyres
  • 4 x Gaz adjustable shock absorbers
  • New brake pads all round
  • Classic black and silver number plates
  • 4 x new rubber door seals
  • New rubber boot lid seal
  • New rear decker seal
  • New light gaskets all round
  • Replacement front screen bottom channel
  • New front screen bottom channel rubber seal
  • New front screen rubber seal
  • New rear screen rubber seal
  • New roof aerial
  • Service items - Q3 2021
    • New oil filter
    • Oil change – Penrite classic
    • Coolant change
    • Brake fluid change
    • ATF changed
    • New windscreen wipers
    • New battery
I want £5,000 for it. If I can't sell it for that I'll keep it and finish it myself.

I'm in Sevenoaks, Kent. DM me or call me on 07713154792 to discussIMG_0944.jpegIMG_0945.jpegIMG_0946.jpegIMG_0947.jpegIMG_0948.jpegIMG_0949.jpegIMG_0950.jpegIMG_0951.jpeg.

So gentlemen (and ladies); 107 views and not a single nibble. Is it the price? The colour? Lack of current MOT? What do I need to do to sell this car? All feedback positive or otherwise very welcome>

BTW, the car originally had black interior. Seats were replaced by a previous owner due to v poor condition. I did intend at some stage to either replace with black or re-colour the existing which I understand is a feasible DIY undertaking.

Honestly, it's overpriced. You've obviously put a lot of time and effort into it, but as you said, it needs engine and gearbox work, a respray, and a lot doing with the interior.

It's not really driveable in the current condition, which means you're looking at about half of what you're asking.

I like the honest description.

Problem is you have a question over the body (paint), transmission and engine. In the minds of a buyer that doesn't leave much else. Part finished projects are one of the riskiest buys of all simply because people don't know the full extent or quality of what is done (no offense to you, obviously the buyer doesn't know you) and it brings up the issue of why you are giving up, the buyer might think there's a gotcha fault you found and you don't want to pay to fix.

Objectively, it would seem to be an odd state of limbo you are trying to sell it. Either remove the questions and sell it as a viable road car needing paint and trim or complete the job.

Really, replace the disks as these are only £100 - I would not want to pass on a car at all with that question mark over it for my own peace of mind and I'm not even sure if that might leave you legally exposed if there are issues and they claim you didn't inform them - could be messy. I'd investigate the trans leak, that might with luck be a cheap gasket or seal. As it stands, that's a potential £2k question mark in the mind of the buyer. And surely putting the cover sills on can't be expensive? You don't mention how noisy the engine is regarding the timing gear. Again DIY, timing gear alone can be done for £50, so it looks strange you haven't done it. More sensibly while the cover is off with cam and followers for £200 (these are likely to be worn at anything over 50-70k miles) - if your buyer has to pay someone that can be £700+ for that. It has to be one of the most joyous experiences of P6 ownership, driving a car after that job is done and suddenly you have the missing 20% of power back again...

I'd guess with that done, you might make £4k for a car needing really only cosmetics. I say "only" trim is a PITA on the P6 as second hand is usually as bad as you are trying to replace.

As it stands I think Chris is right. The problem is, sorted cars still struggle to get into 5 figures. If the market were nearer £15k then this seemingly solid base material makes total sense at the price you ask. No one really restores P6s for profit and TV programmes lie sadly. If we are having this conversation it sounds like you aren't really committed to seeing it through.

I am now also reluctantly thinking of selling my Almond Auto. P6 3500 1974, health has caught up with me now, and the enthusiasm, shows etc. has dried up in my locality anyway.
I have spent on new carpets, brake system all sorted, all panels in good condition, had some welding done on footwells. Working on it for two years now, going in for a respray next month and putting it in for an MOT type report, I think it will pass OK. Took it out for a run last week, engine and auto box, great.
A couple of minor jobs, having got the petrol gauge to work, the bloody temperature gauge has packed up, (wire loose?) I am looking for £5525, any thoughts please

I'm going to try auctioning the car on eBay starting at £2,500. Before I do, anyone here interested at that price?
