Rover p6b restoration

After a bit of cleaning, fabricating a new panel to go over the heater core and refoaminig the flaps I now have a presentable heater box.

Then continued by replacing the seal at the bottom before refitting.

Waited to fit the drain tubes until I'd fitted so could get the angle right.
Also cleaned up and fitted the wiper motor.

After not being happy with the vinyl roof I removed it again stripped it and the paint off.20220426_093942.jpg
After stripping and sanding gave a coat of epoxy and done a couple of light bits of filling.

Then gave it a coat of white primer but didn't take a photo so then more sanding and a fresh coat of 2k almond top coat

Unfortunately ended up with some fish eyes in the topcoat so waited a week then sanded back again and repainted with no fish eyes this time, so just a flat and buff now then I can refit the roof.

Also refitted the headlights after painting and repairing a couple of the adjusters.

And tested the horns and cleaned and painted them up a bit.20220507_143050.jpg

Roof looks great. I personally prefer a straight painted roof over vinyl.
Has come up ok now.
I was gutted the first time with loads af little fish eyes appearing.
Wish I just painted it in the first place bit probably better in the long run as one less thing for rust to get at under the vinyl.

So done a bit more yesterday and fitted the interior mirror and picked out my most presentable sunvisors. ( didn't have many to choose from)

Then started to fit screen so fitted the vent rubber.
(Not sure if the retainers are round the correct way)

Also in above photo you can see the new neoprene foam seal.
Then in with the screen but as expected the corners don't fit very well
Then I knew I shouldn't of gone any tighter on the Jack's and bang i broke the screen.

Luckily I have another screen but unfortunately it's toughened and not tinted but beggars can't be choosers I guess.
All went well except the corners still not fitting great.

I did glue the corners but still not happy with it.
Seal come from winns.
Scott's just got back to me and won't have any until later in the year.
Does anyone have any experience with wadhams seals or are they likely to be from the same source as winns.

I had the same issue and tried seals from both Geoff and Jon. They were very similar. Although I do not know if they were sourced from the same place, the both appeared to be straight extrusions that were bent after extrusion. Scott is the only one I know that forms the seals initially in the correct shape. Scott did not have a front screen seal when I did my work and I settled for a somewhat poor corner fit and extra sealant. I had a similar experience with getting the rear decker panel to rear glass seal to fit properly. In that case, Scott had a seal available and the difference in fit was huge. My front screen seal purchases were made in 2017 and 2018, so things may have changed since then.

I think I will probably make do with it for a while but keep checking and if Scott's become available purchase one .
Don't think there's much point trying a wadhams one as it's probably going to be much the same.

That looks like you've only got the rubber seal at the bottom of the windscreen.. or is the metal one there too?

After a little route around my spares I've found a good used front screen seal that's not perished or cracked so think I'll pop the screen out and use that one.

Personally I actually prefer the hardened screens over the laminated ones. It doesn't take much to crack the laminated ones whereas I've had tennis ball size rocks hit my hardened one and had them bounce off with only tiny chipping.

I must admit there are a lot tougher.
Just messy if they do break. Lol.

Have now fitted the used screen rubber and the corners definitely fit better.

Still need to rivet the trims on but looks like it will be fine now.
Also fitted the dash pad.

What I like about your restoration is now that the car is a car again, and is looking great with the colour on, is to occasionally scroll back to the days of metalwork and rust - puts the current article into some sort of perspective in terms of the amount and level of work you did. Its a brilliant 'diary' of the restoration, something that most people never have - there are a couple of areas if your car that I know better than on my own! Keep up the videos, have learned lots of stuff as I avoid doing things by watching youtube!

It's certainly been a labour or love or not so much sometimes but is really taking shape now.
Haven't been doing any youtube vids lately as been trying to get as much done as possible but will put out an update video soon.

Spent a few hours fitting the new door rubbers and getting the doors to shut nicely.
Only had a problem with one being to close to the pillar covers but a bit of persuasion sorted that.

Once I was happy with the fit it was time to look at the front wings which someone in the past had tried to make an inner arch/ dirt shield.
So drilled all the rivets out which I'll have to weld up the holes.
I can see the idea but I won't be doing the same.

I didn't remove the front wing stiffeners as Arthuy suggests, and about five years on from a respray the paint on my wings began to bubble in that spot. During the first period of enforced leisure the other year I started poking idly with a screwdriver, and soon revealed a hole in the metal about the size of a fifty pence coin where the trapped gunk behind the stiffener had caused corrosion. A cautionary tale. I was very disappointed to say the least. Probably worth going the extra mile, I reckon.
