S1 grille on S2 car - problem?

You really need also a series 1 V8 bonnet for such a change. If you keep the series 2 bonnet, there will be a visible ugly gap between the front end of the bonnet and the top of the grille.

As far as i know yes. The problem is that it just doesn't look right with the series 2 bonnet.

Hi, You need to use the Series 1 V8 grille because the headlight hole spacing is different to the S1 4 pot.

The S1 valance is also different. the locating slots for the grille are set further back on an S1 valance so fitting an S1 grille to a car with an S2 valance results in the grille "leaning" back.

Hi Rudiger this is what I posted to the
MK 1 Bonnet strip on MK 2 bonnet thread
So the Series 2 bonnet can work with the Series 1 grille, on my Series 1 car, but as Demetris has said you do really need a gap filler. I used the centre section of the S1 bonnet strip. Actually clearing out my storeroom on the weekend I found the end sections which go over the lights and played about with the idea of adding them to the bonnet but they would need to be set back further and there would still be a gap.

I copied and pasted the stuff below, but to open the pics in full size try going to the

not sure if this is what you had in mind. Series1 strip on Series2 bonnet which, with flutes, is my 'summer' bonnet, though tends to spend most of the year on the car. Did this about 20 years ago with a hacksaw, file and sandpaper. Didn't really want it over the headlights, which would have been beyond my ability anyhow. There always seems to be about a 3mm gap between bonnet edge and strip at the centre (even on my original Series1) and strip is not totally uniform.

Is that true of both the v8 and 4 pot cars?

I checked my nada and my series 2 V8 valances today and must admit i cant see any differences in the grill location points.
Clive.

All the series one v8 grill pieces i've owned (4 or so) have fitted my series 2 v8 valance perfectly.
I thought that this compatibility was already fairly well documented?
