Sad News - LDD fire

Is your insurance for market value or agreed value ? .I'm surprised the salvage value is too high for you as most insurers get a % from the salvage buyers , typically 20% at best

Re: Sad News - LDD fire - update

Kind of closure on this one. The insurance have issued a cheque (very quickly I have to say - no hassle, no quibble on the amount) and the salvage has gone off to what ever they will make of it. I have now said my final farewell to what was a great car and will remember the 32,000 miles driven in her with great fondness. We had some good times together. Now its time to move on and the search for a worthy successor continues.

The "salvage" will no doubt reappear shortly .If your insurers use Universal Salvage , watch out for their salvage auctions

Hi, I expect Nick Dunning will be offered first refusal as he is the custodian of it and he has
money invested in it (recovery and storage) so it may not go very far.

They're not keen to do that any more. The Ins Co have a recommended salvage buyer, and they get all sulky if they don't get everything, so even if the storage and recovery charges come to more than the value of the salvage, then the charges still end up being paid out and the salvage going.

Poor old LDD just sold for £1100 plus buyers fees and loading charge at Copart (Sandwich, Kent).
Quite strong money given the severe damage, but here's hoping it will see the road again one day!.

I saw at before the auction opened it got to £525 pre bidding. The photos didn't show the fire damage to the transmission tunnel carpet and switch gear, so there is even more hidden damage probably. Love to know who got her and they seem to have got a bargain compared to the salvage price I was asked for if I wanted it back.

He-ho. The search goes on for a replacement.

I believe some salvage buyers get fire damaged salvage for free on the basis that it's normally worthless .A nice earner for Copart (Universal Salvage)
