That is sad news, I never met him but have read many of his posts here. He came across as a real enthusiast and will be missed.

This is such sad news...

I've not been a P6 owner for a number of years now but when I was I was always on here and Pilkies comments, humour and help seemed to always be in evidence. He was a real legend of a person...

It just goes to show that life is a gift and you just have to make the most of it!

RIP to a ruddy great chap...

A message posted from Dave's account on facebook:

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments and memories, it is so nice to hear that Dave helped so many people whether he met them or not?
it is early days in the arrangments but the ideas put forward here and on other forums are in line with Dave's final wishes, the idea of a parade of classics made him smile through the tough times!
the service will be at westerleigh crematorium on a date and time not yet sorted?
i will try to get this information out to as many people as I can and anyone with a classic will be more than welcome to join in on route?
Daves attitude to the actual service was "just get it over with" so there won't be choirs of angels and white doves!
more details will follow once I have spoken with all concerned?
Once again thank you all it means a lot to the family
much love

Pilkie, you'll be missed around these parts! I never met Dave in person but I enjoyed his comments and contributions here on the Classic Rover Forum over the years.

Very sad news indeed, I missed the opertunity to speak with Dave at a show, he was chatting to a few people and I thought I would catch him on the way back round, but I missed him.
Had a few chats online though, very decent chap who loved his cars, and fellow classic owners too.
My condolences to Dave ( aka Pilkie ) family and friends, I hope his send off will involve plenty of classics, he would have loved that.

Very sorry to hear this news. I read his posts on the forum before I met him a couple of times at shows. Very nice friendly gentleman. my thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Pilkie.

Always sad to hear another forum member pass.

Had good dealings with Dave, I hope there is a good turn out for him.

Poor old sod.

Thought this he posted just over a year ago was particularly poignant:

"Once all this is over,I will be taking a trip to stay with my mother in NZ for a bit of r/r.
Then if all is still well on my return,Casper and I are going to buy a big yank RV and take a trip round the coast of the UK,and will no doubt visit lots of classic car shows."

Yes his health never really improved enough to make it. Very sad. Had a few chats with him over the months.

I have not been on the forum as much as I would have liked, and I was just thinking about Pilkie, then I saw this thread.

I feel terribly sad, he did indeed love his cars and this forum.

My sincere condolences to his family.

R.I.P Pilkie.

Dear Friends, a date for your calendars.
Daves funeral will be on Thursday 17th Nov at 3:15pm in the woodland chapel at westerleigh crematorium,( westerleigh rd Bristol BS37 8QP.)
In line with Daves final wishes there will be a informal non religious ceremony which is open to all who can make it? Please do not feel that there is a dress code, Dave did not own a suit and did not adhere to the "normal" rules of attire!
there is to be no formal "wake" but there is an area where people can gather after to chat and share memories if you so wish? ( although the buying and selling of car spares may be frowned upon!)
myself and the family understand that many of you will have work commitments or a long way to travel, all we ask is that you take time out to remember him for a moment on that day.... Dave did not specify his wishes on flowers so I will let people express themselves however they feel? But I will be trying to set up a donations page on here, (kicked off by his own generous gift) so if you wish to show your respects in that way and help others you can?
As far as the "parade of classics" is concerned I will be following the hearse in Daves Jag xk8 with his PLK1E number plate and anybody who wishes to join in en-route from Dursley to westerleigh is more than welcome? I would suggest some point along the A46 would be best I will try and put more info on here soon but please google the route and see what you think is best? (Suggestions welcome)
if we hold up traffic so be it!!
thats it for now I am sure I will have forgotton something but please message me on here or use the number below.
much love

Message on Dave's facebook account:

Please use this link to donate anything you can in memory of my Dear brother Dave "Pilkie" Pilkington
His kindness and generosity has been shown by a donation of £5000 already!
Let's see what we can do to help prevent this awful disease from taking any more innocent lives
Much love

Ok peeps...on the subject being discussed about a meeting place?........
on the A46 between the bodkin house (petty France) hotel and the cross hands hotel ( old sodbury) at location called clay pitch, there is a massive lay-by on the correct side of the road ( heading towards Westerleigh)
It can be seen on Google Earth!
I think this would work?
The hearse will pass here between 14:30 and 15:00

Much love
Little bruv
Ps sorry to you classic owners but I will be in an Audi A6!! but it is now proudly wearing the PLK1E plate!

Sorry I can't be there to say goodbye but taking time out now to remember a great man.
RIP. Pilkie
Clive .
