Saffron Rover in Western Australia!

oh crikey, marvellous seats and engine but what about the front passenger? looking at that weird gizmo bunged onto the front glove compartment? nooo that does look a sight, dont much like the speakers either

lovely looking car though

Lol, that is one of the locations for dealer fitted air conditioning in Australia. No glove box in front of the passenger, less leg room, and frozen to billio when the system is running full blast over Summer

I have also seen Rovers in Australia with the air conditioner mounted on top of the parcel shelf , on the rear shelf behind the seats, and in the best place, above the radio  Some of the units in the latter location required relocating the fuel reserve knob under the choke, which itself had been relocated onto a bracket adjacent to its original location. Both glove boxes require cutting down with the common installation in that location.
The best aftermarket installation that I have ever seen was a unit manufactured by Hitachi. Much smaller than the dealer fitments, positioned above the radio and no need to modify the glove boxes.

My South African assembled one has the Aircon in the middle and the chopped & bodged cubby holes.

Hi Ron, any further info on the Hitachi unit would be appreciated, don't believe I have ever seen one. Assume a rotary rather than reciprocating compressor?

Hi Mike,

The Rover that was fitted with the Hitachi unit was a Lunar Grey 3500S, but it was more than 20 years ago when I saw it at a NSW Rover Owner's Club meeting. I have no more information other than that Mike, sorry about that. Are you a member of the Facebook Australian P5 & P6 Rover Owner's Club? Maybe the person that owns it is a member....

Ron.
