Saharan dust = red rain = dirty car!

I gave my grubby car a wash, and the very next day the south of England was deluged with red rain. Saharan dust sure makes the car filthy! Reaches for bucket and sponge...

Hi, Yes I had that yesterday, then we had proper wet rain overnight and it was all gone this morning.

Have patience grasshopper.;)

@Quagmire I used plenty of buckets of water! I'll have to investigate whatever 'Snowfoam' is...
@Gargo Are you sure that isn't anti-puncture slime all over that wing!? :hmm:
I once made the mistake of trying the stuff out in my bicycle tyres. Not only did it not seal the next puncture I got, it squirted sticky green slime which looked just like that all over the inside of the tyre, and most of the rest of the bike too!

Hi Al,

Snowfoam is a product you spray onto the car which is like a sticky/clingy detergent foam. You cover the car with it (and it looks like it has been snowed on - hence the name) using a pressure washer and the appropriate lance attachment. You leave it to dwell for the required period and then hose the car off. Its job is to loosen up any dirt and allow it to be hosed off prior to washing with a wash mitt. It reduces the amount of dirt you are dragging across the paint when you do the proper wash.

Details here

I use the following for a wash (admittedly on my wifes car, the P6 has to my shame not been washed properly in a while):
  • Two 20L buckets, one to rinse in (with grit guard and clean fresh water) and the other for car shampoo.
  • Auto Glym "Polar Blast" snowfoam
  • Duragloss 902 car shampoo - its amazing.
  • Bilt hamber "Auto wheel" - removes brake dust and disc particles from wheels like magic.
  • RaceGlaze "Nano" wheel sealant - really does help keep the wheels and brake calipers cleaner for longer
  • Dodojuice "Black widow" hybrid wax - this is for black/dark coloured cars and keeps the paintwork on my wifes car beading water for around 6 months from a single application.
  • Dodojuice "Cabin Krug" interior cleaner - cleans up hard and soft surfaces amazingly.
I have no connection to any of the above suppliers, just a happy customer :)

*edit - looks like the photos on detailingworld have been replaced with messages protesting the Russian war against Ukraine!

First Snowfoam, now Dodojuice!?!? Exotic concoctions! They both sound like cocktails.
Thanks for those car cleaning tips.
Alas, I don't possess a pressure washer, and there's no provision for a hose in my back yard, so I carry buckets of water down the treacherously steep back stairs. I use a cap full Simoniz wash and wax in the hot water bucket, a cold one to rinse, a clean microfibre cloth or two, and old fashioned elbow grease!
My panels are bubbling through all over the place, and I've managed a few scrapes here and there too, so I'm no longer as worried about all the swirls I've made in the rest of the paintwork! It all needs re-doing, so I'm saving up my pennies for another visit to a paint and body guy at some point...
