Seats

The wife can't get on with fixed seatbelts so I'm looking for a set of seats that can accommodate modern inertia reel belts.

So this means either a pair of series 1.5 fronts in buckskin with the metal plates (yeah right, you and the rest of the world) or a complete set of boxpleat in buckskin. I actually prefer the nylon covers with the second option, not being a fan of cow-based upholstery.

I had similar problems with you, and wanted to change to inertia seatbelts at front.
I have acquired a long time ago the correct seat backs with the recess, and hoped to change around the foams and covers with my current seat backs. However, i never got around to do the switchover, and having lost patient, i decided to try the slim Securon 500/30. To my surprise they are indeed slim, and by fitting one of the available brackets, bent a little, they push the reel against the B/C post trim cover, and they fit nicely without intefering with the front seat travel.
The cost of the pair of the new belts from ebay was 53 GBP + postage. I think that you can buy directly from Securon, but they are more expensive.
Let me know if you want to see photos of the installation.

Demetris that would be fantastic. You are a star. There are threads discussing this but no actual confirmation that this can be done AND have the seat move. Only one or two awkward pictures of jammed seats...

It's funny for all the high-tech in cars, having seat belts that simply don't get in your way makes one of the most significant differences! I know people actually like these as "period" details but I like to actually use my car and life is too short.... That an luxuries like hazard warning lights when you break down!

I'll go and order the securons.

Just out of curiosity I seem to remember my 1974 3500 had lovely details on the seatbelt stalk with the Rover ship in white. I wonder whether it's easily possible to find these and add the appropriate clip to the new belts...
