Series One Ignition switch

Hi Guru's,
Below is an image of the back of a series one ignition switch. top of the picture is the top how it would be normally mounted. Can anyone tell me which function should be connected to which pin? Cheers, Rob.IMG_20220531_094048.jpg

There were two series one ignition switches. One was 2 position, plus start, the other was a 3 position switch plus start. I can take a photo of a 2 position switch, plus start when I get home, if that matches yours. Also I could scan in a wiring diagram. What year is your car?

Hi, What I've always done with ignition switches is to sit down with a multimeter on resistance or a battery and bulb and map out the connections in which positions. A clue for a start is that the starter terminal will be a single terminal as will often be the acc position.

Thanks - this has acc/off/ign and start when you twist it. Mine is a 1971, but this switch is off an unknown donor.

Cheers, I tried that but just got confused, as I'm not sure where to apply power - I think the two in the middle are power and alt return, but I'm not sure which is which. I couldn't get the single to light up at all, and doing it all with one pair of hands was a PIA. will try again when I get the chance I just thought one of the guru's here would know off the top of their head :)

So we'd assume the tang at 7 o'clock is starter?

Hi, Yes, at a guess or starting point I would say that The 3/4 o'clock position is battery power in, the next two pairs of terminals are ignition power out, 7 o'clock is starter and the 6 o'clock is acc position. Don't forget in operation the key goes clockwise so from the back it is counter clockwise. The centre two are a second ignition switch because these switches are normally fitted to up market cars with more ignition controlled equipment.
