Hi all!
As the title suggests,I am in a bit of a quandry! :?
I may or may not have the chance of buying, refurbing and fitting a Tudor webasto sunroof to my recently refurbished S1V8!
I had been asking for one right up to the point the roof was painted and refitted, however nothing turned up!
Now you all know about sods law right!
Something always turns up too late,or when you dont need it anymore!
My daily driver has an identical one that I fitted some years ago,so I have no problem doing the work, and have one to refer to if needed,as the headlining will have to be modified!
Maybe a project for over the winter!
I also have a really good trimmer in Peter Harvey Sunroofs in Kent who can recover the folding top.
There are those of you who detest sunroofs and say buy a convertible,or they are too noisey and leak, and those who love them and the way they enhance the cars looks!
I love the open roof in my daily driver P6V8,and have a TR6 convertible for open top motoring!
Just really dont know the way to go with this one at the moment?
Keep it original or add an optional extra that cannot easily be removed, like cibies or headrests!!
Yes! I know, its my car,and I can do whatever I want to it!
So the simple question for you lot is,in your expert opinions, yes or no!

Hi Pilkie,

Your workmanship is outstanding and your series one looks perfect, just as it is, so my vote goes to leave it that way.

Ron.

I've voted no as well, the car looks fantastic as it is with the purity of the S1's lines.

I'd also keep the original number plates on if it were up to me too, it just looks so right with them on.

110% agree on the plates... These would have been something quite unique when the car was new as they (I imagine?!) would have been an optional extra as black and white plates were still the standard thing to fit up until the early part of the 1970's I believe? Keep the plates, keep the plates...!!!

Re the plates!
Too late!!
They will be changing to black and silver very soon.
But they can always go back on if/when the reg number is put back on!

Much better looking without sunroof.
Not a fan of personal plates either. A car's original number is part of its identity / history.

A cars number at point of purchase is just one picked from a list allocated to the dealer,or just the next one in a sequence of available numbers from the local DVLA office at the time of registration,so SXE 600-700G could all be P6's!
Granted its unique, in its the one the car is effectively born with, but imho doesnt add to the overall value of a classic these days!
The chassis, engine, body numbers all matching as it left the factory mean more to a cars authenticity than the lucky dip reg number it wears!
The original reg number will always, only belong to this car anyway, and if I sell the car,it will be put back on.!
Decision has now been made to leave the roof just as it is! :)
