shims for Doors and tool to remove screws?

Hi there,
my front drivers door has sagged and in reading the workshop manual, to adjust the door up at the closing edge, I have to insert shims on the door hinge that is attached to the door.
the hinge is fixed by 2 large Philips head screws and when the door is wide open, there is not enough space to use a screwdriver?
is there a special screwdriver tool for removing the hinge screws?
and where can I get shims from, or can I make a shim.
Has anyone else had this problem?
All suggestions gratefully received............:)

Peter, have you actually removed the door from the car?
Because as i understand you didn't, and with the door not removed, you cannot (and it isn't necessary...) to adjust the in/out of the hinges.
It is very easy to remove the door on any P6. With the door open, you just unscrew the bottom hinge pin enough, you pull the bottom of the door out to clear the hinge, and then you just lift the complete door out. And yes, they are as heavy as they look to be! Of course first you have to disconnect the check strap at the sill.
Once the door is out, and safely supported, you can use and impact drive to remove the hinge screws. Some of them will be stubborn.

Hi, You could try lifting the door by adjusting the pivot pins up. In fact one or both of them may have worn over time and just adjusting them will cure it. Try the easy jobs first.

The large screws are Posidrive, not Phillips. You run a real risk of stripping the head if you use a Phillips bit.

Otherwise, as mentioned you need to remove the door to access the hinge. You only need to shim the door if it is too far forward or back or is hanging crooked (though in that case the actual problem is a worn bushing in one or both of the hinge bodies) If the door is simply low, that can be adjusted with the hinge pins without removing the door.

Thank you all for your reply's.
The door is still in situ and its only the top closing leading edge that has dropped, the front top is perfectly aligned with the front wing. So I dont want to actually raise it , but pivot it at the btm hinge when in the closed position.
I will go the my local tool store and see what they have to offer for a right angle drive with Posidrive type heads. Would it be possible to make shims, I have some thin flat iron sheeting and a pair of snips.

Hi, If you can lift the back edge of the door into alignment then it's wear in the ball end of the hinge pin. If the front of the door is the right height, then undo the bottom pivot pin locknut and screw the pin down to take out the wear. this will lift the back of the door up.
