Hi guys.
Perhaps considering a new set of shock absorbers since the present ones area Monroe blue of an indeterminable age.
Options are;
a) Spax @ 50 pound each
b) AVO @ 70 pound each
c) GAZ @ 90 pound each
d) Bilstein @ 107 pound each

I know the Bilsteins are superior, however how do the others compare...the first 3 i refer to are all adjustable gas

From my experience, Spax are cheapest, because they are of lower quality, I have used them in the past and wasn't impressed.

I wasn't aware Spax were available for the P6. Have you got any links to the catalogue reference?

My instinct is that AVO and GAZ are very closely equivalent. Bilsteins are extremely unlikely to satisfy as they are non adjustable. The chances of you agreeing with their choice of valving is zero! If you find them OK you'd probably also have been satisfied with the Monroe's!

I had heard about the Spax shocks being somewhat disappointing.
Funny, but the shocks at the direct link to Spax are more expensive than the "gas ajustable" Spax shocks that JR Wadhams have.
They have them advertised at 50 quid each.

I was always of the view that Bilsteins were among the best shockies for ride quality.
Looks like the AVO ones represent best value for money.
How do the original Woodhead compare?
What is it that makes the Monroes shite?
I thought perhaps they were too sloppy and lacked control.
Are you saying they are too harsh?

In terms of the Spax pricing, all I can think is that the spax direct price is the RRP, whereas other suppliers may be offering a discount, I saw another supplier doing them at £69, but £50 does sound a bit cheap.

Hi Richard.
According to John Wadham;

Hi.
What brand are your gas adjustable shocks for the p6b?

Hello

Spax. What is your postcode? Which shock absorbers do you require?

Regards,

J R Wadhams Ltd

Maybe he's got a bit of stock and just wants to sell them. Can't see spax doing more than one model for the P6, so they should be the same.

I've got AVO adjustable shocks on my car and they do come with bushes. The adjustment range goes from non existant to very hard. They don't have a lot of compression damping so you get a very supple ride and then you use the adjusters to tame the bounce on the rebound stroke.

Sounds like just the ones i am after.
Think I'm about ready to place a shocky order...not very often I get excited at the prospect of SPENDING money!! :p

Same, who are you ordering yours through? I haven't heard back From Alan about the Gaz's so I think I'll go through Merlin Motorsport.

works out at 288 pounds plus freight for a set of TD623/TB455's

AVO UK have them at 6o pound each.
Plus 100 pound for freight for the 4 of them to QLD Australia.
Total of 340 pound...$521. Or about $130 per shock...delivered.
Whilst not cheap, I think this is quite reasonable for 4 shocks of decent quality.

Rover P6

TD623
£60.00
TB455
£60.00

Think it'd be worthwhile us doing a group buy to combine shipping out to Oz?

I've been on and off about swapping mine out too so if we could get a decent deal for a bulk batch it would probably swing me to the On side again..

same, count me in. I just bought a pair of SD1 efi heads as well that were too cheap to pass up, all of this after I said "no no, I'm not spending any more money on the Rover this year...."

Yeah, Im happy to investigate a combined postage scenario...I would imagine the best way to approach it would be to ascertain the final price and then each pay the appropriate amount by Paypal.
Or something like that

£64.80 inc. vat is £54.00 without it. That's 10% cheaper

I might get some of those myself.

I've justy replaced my rear shocks with AVO 16-way adjustable versions, big difference! I have them set to the stiffest setting as the 7x15 allys fitted were just tickling the much modified D-post  But saying that my NOS Monro version bought last yr were shot, no resistance on the inward stroke, hence the awful bouncing over slightly bumpy roads!
